WWJD : WWJD Lesson 1 for last Sun. Sept. / 08 What would Jesus do… about setting social boundaries? Jesus set personal and social boundaries like this: : Jesus set personal and social boundaries like this: John 2:23-25 ( narrated ) John 2:24-5 Scripture says “But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men. And needed not that any should testify of man, for he knew what was in man.” And what then was in man? Scriptures tell us. Jeremiah 17:9-10 : Jeremiah 17:9-10 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desparately wicked: who can know it? I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit ( deeds ) of his doings.” Jesus chooses His closest companions : Jesus chooses His closest companions Just as Jesus did not ‘commit’ himself to but a very few trusted and proven companions so we are wise to follow his ways as well in choosing our circle of friends. He did this prayerfully as led. We note also in Scriptures that Jesus often had an inner, inner circle such as Peter and John. There are levels of intimacy with God and we need to follow suit to wisely invest ourselves in others. God counsels us in Scriptures to ‘guard our hearts and minds with all diligence… and in Christ Jesus- that means his ways become also our ways. Jesus deals with crowds : Jesus deals with crowds Jesus dealt in crowds with a purpose in mind to heal, teach and build up the people in the Kingdom ways of God to prove God by works. Jesus demonstrated these teachings with power by signs and miracles in meeting practical needs of people for healing, deliverance and ministry of basic needs. Jesus spoke to the heart of anyone who addressed him whether they were ordinary or religious folks. He exposed lies and hypocrites and he had compassion on the needy and poor. Examples for further study : Examples for further study Examine how Jesus spoke to and dealt with the religious fakes of his day with strong rebukes- or how he dealt with the poor and needy with mercy. Note how we also are to learn to accurately divide the truth in order to develop the discernment within us to do likewise… answer the true heart of the matter- whatever it may be. The trouble is- this will often be risky and involve challenging and exposing lies and sin- just like Jesus did. The Holy Spirit will lead and help us to do this with courage. Conclusion : Conclusion Choose wisely and prayerfully to God a trusted few for companions- and have innermost circles of tried and true confidantes only. Choose deliberately and those you know have to do with your life mission and purpose- God will reveal this to you. With crowds- minister to those in need as God leads you and provides but keep a healthy distance like Jesus did. Jesus took off periodically for rest and refreshment as needed. We should follow also. God bless you richly! : God bless you richly! Remember Jesus when keeping your boundaries- be very careful about who you are trusting close to you and what you are giving your precious reserves of energy and power to!
