1&2.Objective (what?): Topic:Averting pedestrian and cyclist accident using Event data recorder data, wireless sensor networks ,M2M protocols and make places more accessible to tourists. 3&4.Where and Why:Limerick, Ireland biggest problem is finding localized store which has no web enablement. Since Ireland small country web enablement was never thought necessary for many small businesses like cycle repair stores. Here tourist face lot of problem in finding these daily needs for cycling, trekking, hiking or daily grocery needs. Also there are many cyclist and pedestrian killed in accident. 2.What additions:Solution is central city portal linked to google map with picasa web photo and youtube feed with twitter facebook link where anyone lost can put question and hence find answers. Now govt have data of every business it would very easy to put on google map. Many people use bike with GPS using application and GPS trekking software like (http://www.gtrek.co.uk/) this data could be gathered to tell bike routes over mobile apps. It can tell the cycle distance like bike and car distance as bike takes less time here compared to car. And regular city council news should be run as running feed on website and accessible on Mobile app. 6. How? Design and Root cause analysis of problem and solution: Root cause of death of many pedestrian and cyclist is that cycle lane does not exists in many areas it breaks out into same road where speeding cars are travelling and there are many places where small crossing does not have traffic signals as those areas are identified as not much concentration of traffic. This data of cyclist GPS tracking can actually reveal the pain points and places prone to accidents thus planning proper cycle way could be achieved. For Pedestrian killed in accidents : every car is fitted wit device which is like black box echoing signals and capturing events Event data Recorder which electronically senses problem in engine or changes in wheel speeds etc. together with this data we have camera mounted on traffic poles which can give insight into pain points of traffic like areas more prone to accidents as well causes of accident in to places like sharp turn so turn can be smoothened. Also this date should be published on google map can alert the pedestrian and cylist even car diver major areas of accidents. Moreover if we can realy this date back using GPS trekking to car driver it can alert driver back driver of car/truck that he is approaching a possible pedestrian/cyclist accident prone region (also echo reason like here accidents happened due to no separate cyclist lane.) This can take benefit of Wireless sensor networks and standards like wirelessHart, Zigbee,6LoWPAN which help to create wireless personal area network using wireless sensors and data can be dynamically fed into sensors at traffic poles or using connectivity of many vehicles travelling data can be relayed back to base station it will

help to develop better smart cities. Now for privacy the user has one advantage if he shares his data the can get reports about best driving routes to his destination consuming less fuel and taking less time. This data can used to create reports for city council(Who to engage? )about major accidents region on google maps which can be accessed by mobile or web and can give dynamic reports to user depending on area he is planning to travel. The energy is most important concern for wireless sensor networks for which we have two ways wind energy second solar energy. These are complementary technology as when sun is there usually wind is slow while when hailstorm sun is out but wind is heavy and gusty. All sensor fitted with pizeo-electric energy harvesting capability to harvest energy and well solar panels to produce electricity and a micro-wind mill mounted on poles which can convert wind into small energy. Also on busy routes we can absorb sound waves to produce electricity. This Energy can keep these wireless sensors distributed on top of traffic poles and signals up and running. Which feeds the base station and data collected at city council servers entered into databases. Data Analysis Then statistical algorithm , machine learning and data mining can convert this data to format of deriving intelligence out of this like machine learning to predict best routes for a user or less accident prone route. For city council worst accident prone routes and turns to take for next stage of planning. Using Message Queue Telemetry transport MQTT which is machine to machine opene message protocol which enable transfer of telemetry style data. This data is feed into cloud computing clusters to using technology like hadoop where by we can structure data into format to make intelligence out of data in huge and since data is stored on cloud database where council will be paying for pay per use instead of one time capital expenditure. Hence Capital expenditure is turned into Operating expenditure which helps city council to pay only for usage hence maintain better financials. 6.Challenge: The real challenge is accuracy of data which can also be controlled by statistical analysis and error correction and use of data mining, then next set of challenge is maintaining energy at sensor nodes which is over come buy solar and wind and battery energy and energy harvesting using piezoelectric material. Another challenge is no. of user using GPS enabled bikes but here even we can start with few bikes or corporation/city council/police can have few bikes which can used to collect data.But gathering data from pedestrian prospective we are depending on Car black box which actually can say car view of data and not pedestrian view of data.

7.Final product: single usable portal used by web or mobile to pedestrian, cyclist , tourist to find less accrident pron route. For city planners to have better pathway and accident free roads and safe traffic for car /truck/cyclist and city council. 8. working on project myself.
