PowerPoint Presentation: SEMINAR ON PowerPoint Presentation: An OPERATING SYSTEM (OS) is a collection of software that manages computer hardware resources and provides common services for computer programs. The operating system is a vital component of the system software in a computer system. Application programs require an operating system to function. For hardware functions such as input and output and memory allocation, the operating system acts as an intermediary between programs and the computer hardware, although the application code is usually executed directly by the hardware and will frequently make a system call to an OS function or be interrupted by it. Operating systems can be found on almost any device that contains a computer—from cellular phones and video game consoles to supercomputers and web servers. Examples of popular modern operating systems include Android, BSD, iOS, Linux, Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, Windows Phone, and IBM z/OS. All these, except Windows and z/OS, share roots in UNIX. OPERATING SYSYTEM F EATURES:- PowerPoint Presentation: Microsoft Windows is a series of graphical interface operating systems developed, marketed, and sold by Microsoft. Microsoft introduced an operating environment named Windows on November 20, 1985 as an add-on to MS-DOS in response to the growing Interest in graphical user interfaces (GUIs). Microsoft Windows came to dominate the world's personal computer market with over 90% market share, overtaking Mac OS, which had been introduced in 1984. The most recent client version of Windows is Windows 7; The most recent server version is Windows Server 2012; The most recent mobile version is Windows Phone 7.5. WINDOWS PowerPoint Presentation: WINDOWS 8 is an operating system produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, tablets, and home theater PCs. Development of this operating system started before the release of its predecessor in 2009. Its existence was first announced in January 2011 at Consumer Electronics Show. On August 1, 2012, Windows 8 graduated from the development stage and was released to manufacturing. Windows 8 is slated for general availability on October 26, 2012 . Windows 8 introduces significant changes to the operating system's graphical user interface and platform, such as A new Start screen to replace the Start menu used by previous versions of Windows, a new online store that can be used to obtain new applications, along with a new platform for apps that can provide what developers described as a "fast and fluid" experience with emphasis on touch screen input. Additional security features were also added to the operating system, such as a built-in antivirus program and a secure boot feature on systems with UEFI firmware. Secure boot requires the operating system to be digitally signed to protect malware from infecting the boot process. INTRODUCTION PowerPoint Presentation: PREVIEW PowerPoint Presentation: The minimum system requirements for Windows 8 are Slightly higher than those of Windows 7. Minimum hardware requirements for Windows 8 PROCESSOR 1 GHz MEMORY (RAM) 1 GB 2 GB GRAPHICS CARD DirectX 9 graphics device STORAGE 20 GB HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS PowerPoint Presentation: STARTUP : The startup or boot is much faster when compared to all other previous versions of Windows OS. NEW START SCREEN : The start screen is not like the traditional Windows screens, it has live tiles that update with app info such as new mail arrivals, news, weather, stock tickers and many more. There are many default apps that are already in there to provide you all this. SYNC : now easily sync with all your computers using Microsoft account sign-in or what is called as Windows Live ID. This feature syncs personalization preferences, Internet Explorer favorites, backgrounds, Wi-Fi passwords and more with cloud-connected accounts. NEW APP STORE : There is a brand new app store where awesome apps are sold. This apps can run on both Windows 8 tablets and PCs. You can buy all those apps which you would want to have it on your comp based on your needs. BATTERY LIFE : You’ll notice a great performance on your laptop with respect to the battery. This means that Windows 8 Professional improves the battery life of both laptops and tablets. FEATURES OF WIN 8 PowerPoint Presentation: GRAPHICS : Windows 8 Professional comes with a much faster graphics and text performance. You will easily notice that once you start using it. All thanks to the hardware acceleration feature. TRUSTED BOOT : This feature makes Windows 8 Professional more secure. It prevents malware from loading before the OS, on systems with UEFI boot. IE 10 : A much improved Internet Explorer 10, with far better support for the new HTML5 standards and faster performance is available on Windows 8 Pro. GREATER PERFORMANCE : Windows 8 Professional comes with greater performance. The boot is faster and it hardly takes any time to startup. CONNECTED WITH THE CLOUD: Sign in to any of your devices running Windows 8 and your personalized settings and apps are right there. Your apps light up with connections to your friends And family. Info from the services you connect to Hotmail, Messenger, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and more—appears right inside the Mail, Messaging, and People apps. You use multiple PCs and a phone. Now you can connect across these devices to SkyDrive , Facebook, Flickr , and other services, so you can smoothly get to all your photos and files PowerPoint Presentation: SOME MORE INTERESTING FEATURES OF WINDOWS 8 PowerPoint Presentation: We all know the BIOS  (Basic Input Output System) from the day we have known Windows. BIOS is generally used when we mess up with the Windows and not very often. The drawback of BIOS is that it is not very user-friendly. THE UNIFIED EXTENSIBLE FIRMWARE INTERFACE (UEFI) is a replacement for the BIOS. It reduces boot time and also secures the PC during the boot time with the Trusted Boot feature. UEFI also allows diagnostics to be performed on the boot screen over the network. What makes UEFI very different from the BIOS is the support for mouse. A very important distinguishing feature I must say. You can restore Windows, recover via image files, modify the start-up behavior or use the Command Prompt for advance repair as per requirement. UEFI PowerPoint Presentation: If you find entering passwords to be cumbersome and old-style, then Windows 8 Professional has got something new for you called the “Picture Password”. Windows 8 utilizes a new system that incorporates pictures and gestures in user authentication. If you are wondering on how to use the Picture Password, then let me tell you - At first you will need to select an image on which you want to perform a gesture. The gestures could be tapping on something in the picture, encircling something, or drawing a line between two points. A password would then comprise any combination of these three. PICTURE PASSWORDS PowerPoint Presentation: Having a Windows Live ID gives you access to many of the Microsoft’s services. You can access Outlook/Hotmail for emails, Office Web for online document creation and collaboration, Skydive for online file storage, Live messenger for chatting etc. Well, now you can use the same ID even on your Windows 8 Pro to login. This has many advantages as users logging in with their Windows Live ID will have their accounts automatically synchronized with Microsoft’s servers. Many settings such as your wallpaper, mouse settings, Explorer settings, Internet Explorer history and favorites', spell-check dictionaries and a number of other settings will be available on any computer, you log into with this account – and if you make a change on one computer it will be reflected to all other computers. Not just that, you will have the Metro apps purchased from the Windows Store available on all your computers on which you will sign in using your Windows Live ID. The Internet Explorer 10 further supports this feature and will keep browsing sessions in sync across computers. LOGGING IN VIA WINDOWS LIVE ID PowerPoint Presentation: Well, this has been the talk of the town now. The Metro or Live tiles are the small rectangular boxes seen on the start screen. It brings in the whole new change to the UI of Windows. Each tile represents an application, and can display relevant information such as the number of unread messages for an e-mail application or the current temperature on a weather application. You can prioritize and order programs by varying size and position of the respective tiles in accordance with your needs. The Start Screen in Windows 8 Pro thus efficiently manages your system, making things easily. WINDOWS-STYLE APPS (METRO) PowerPoint Presentation: The Windows Store now features apps for purchase, with various price ranges. You can buy all those apps which you feel you may need to have on your computer. The best thing here is that you can reinstall the apps you have bought on any of your PCs. Searching, downloading and installing applications is simple and easy. WINDOWS STORE PowerPoint Presentation: It is always better to have a comprehensive contacts list or address book that is accessible wherever you go. With the People App your contacts can be easily imported to your contact list via popular social and professional forums like Hotmail, Twitter, LinkedIn, Gmail and more. The Me page shows your own picture and all the updates and notifications related to your connected accounts, while the What’s New page displays all your friends and all their updates together in one place. PEOPLE APP PowerPoint Presentation: Every one of us like to have portable applications since we can always carry them with us where ever we go. You must have run applications like web browsers, word processors, image editors etc from a pen drive but not Windows. Well, you can now have  portable Windows with you. Yes! with Windows 8 Professional, you will even be able to take the entire operating system with you. Enterprise versions of the OS will be capable of running off a flash drive or portable hard disk. WINDOWS TO GO PowerPoint Presentation: After using Windows for a certain period of time, you will often find a noticeable decrease in performance. As and when applications are installed and uninstalled, remnants of these programs start to build-up and cause performance issues. The solution in such cases was to reinstall the OS. But that is a very difficult and a time consuming process. Well, Windows 8 Pro has a solution for it. The new OS will have two options, Refresh and Reset, to tackle this problem. Reset, as its name suggests, resets your installation to its initial state. It deletes all your personal data and software, leaving a fresh Windows 8 computer that you can even hand over to someone else. Refresh is a less drastic measure. It retains your personal data, customizations and settings, and re-installs Windows in-place. After this procedure you can log into the same old account, and see all your documents intact. Your desktop apps will be gone, but a list of those will be saved so you can remember which ones you need to reinstall. REFRESH N RESET YOUR PC PowerPoint Presentation: The copying mechanisms that Windows currently uses is some what no the best. Not only are the ‘copy time’ estimates are  erroneous, but even basic features such as pausing a transfer are absent. Windows 8 rectifies this and a number of other issues with improvements in its file management system. I can say that the copy/move progress window has completely changed. First of all, if you are running multiple file operations on Windows 8 Professional, it consolidates them all into a single window showing all transfers. Secondly, individual operations can be paused or cancelled. And while the basic Copy operation window is simplified, there is a new detailed view that offers a lot more, including the current speed, and a graph of how that speed has changed over time. FILE MANAGEMENT PowerPoint Presentation: The Start menu has been removed in favor of a full screen interface called the Start screen. The Aero Glass theme, which has been featured in Windows Vista and Windows 7 has been removed from Windows 8 in favor of a Metro-style theme. Microsoft Gadgets which has been featured in Windows Vista and Windows 7 has been removed from Windows 8. The command bar is no longer present, and has been replaced by a new ribbon. Windows Media Center will no longer be included by default in any version of Windows 8. The Blue Screen of Death no longer shows as much technical Information about the error that caused the computer to stop. The Parental Controls feature present in earlier versions of Windows has been removed and replaced by the Family Safety feature.
