MBAs often search for job and waste their time. View supports the idea of exploring business opportunities when one is MBA

1 WHY JOB NECESSARILY AFTER MBA? Fahim Akhtar Three years ago the man came to Karachi from a remote village of interior Sindh where sufficient resources of higher education do not exist. Like many others student in thousands hailing from diverse places and backgrounds, he also joined MBA program of a private university amongst one of more than a dozen located at Shahra-e –Faisal, Karachi. The program did cost him ten thousand rupees per month roughly in fee expense and another same or slightly more amount for existence and survival including boarding and lodging in most economical and asceticism manner to a new place away from his friends and family. His aims were high and dreams too and graduated in business management timely. From one year or a little less, he is in search of job, a suitable position for him in comparison with his qualification expecting return of revenue invested in him by his family. Jobs are not there and even if some opening is there, organizations HR guys in good organizations ask Alumni of only a few institutes tagged and recognized for quality business management education. But every one is not a graduate of that place, hence, does not qualify pre requisite. The individual came across me while I was guest speaker to same university from where he graduated and now pursuing his MS for time pass only according to him. He is shattered and broken and the man questioned me the

2 intellect of government and educational policy makers in graduating masses when job market is closed. I gave him discount of his frustration in his attitude and asked him what did he learn in curriculum of MBA? Has he not refined his perception of a business development? Was he aware how a business accounts are monitored and maintained before his MBA or his studies shaped him? Is he not confident now in assessing any business? Are marketing modalities and sales techniques traits inculcated in him as consumer or client or he analyzes those as a response of individuals? Spray of question and answer in turn reflected that knowledge skill and abilities of individual are good like any other MBAs. I asked him how much salary he expects from a good job. The man replied me fifty thousand. So you want to sell your skills in rupees fifty thousand per months with annual increment of ten percent. The man was satisfied by look and did not answer. Well selling at so low price to every Tom and Jerry is not fair, not justified. When you have good openings in multinational or well reputed organization nothing is bad in opting and joining, for your self development purpose. But when job crunch is there, this is MBA only that gives you confidence to sell your KSAs in market anywhere at the rate of your choice – selling your traits. You may go for a business – a business not exactly like as any Khan of Bollywood, managing a group of companies acquired by a stroke of luck without chronologically developed skills of MBA but a business in real sense for the purpose of earning profit legally. The counter my argument, I expect people will raise the issue of funds for every business as it was in that forum. Not a valid argument – if you have a sound plan; there are people, organization and banks all out to support you – but you need what is guts and pluck only. An MBA can run both a shop in street and chain of departmental stores in same effective manner better than a non MBA. No disappointments in job crunch go for business. There are more than two dozen management institutes and universities in Karachi enrolling roughly of 300 pupil annually for MBA program producing

3 more than seven thousands MBAs in an year. Every MBA can not get job in multinational and may not assume the role of HR manager, project manager, supply chain or finance. But option for business remains open to all. After all trade was the profession of our holy prophet also.
