Description

The story of man is the story of sin. In this lesson we will examine sin and why a holy and loving God would deal with sin. For many of us, our first thought is that Jehovah dealt with sin because of His wrath. This seems to be an incomplete answer. Rather as a loving Father he dealt with sin to bring us back into a righteous relationship with Him.

Many of these thoughts were inspired and borrowed from Jim McGuiggan’s book: The Dragon Slayer, chapter 2: The Road leading to Bethlehem and Golgatha.

SIN

Sin is breaking the law. “sin is lawlessness” 1 John 3:4, CB NT p. 422

Sin is breaking the law. “All wrongdoing is sin” 1 John 5:17, CB NT p. 425

Sin is breaking the law. “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men” Romans 1:18, CB NT p. 265

Sin is breaking the law.

Sin is breaking the law.

Sin is inside of me.

Sin is inside of me. “But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.” James 1:14-15, CB NT p. 401

Sin is inside of me. “But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person.” Matthew 15:18, CB NT p. 30

Sin is inside of me. “who heals all your diseases” Psalm 103:3, CB OT p. 945

Sin is breaking a relationship.

Sin is breaking a relationship. “Children have I reared and brought up, but they have rebelled against me.” Isaiah 1:2, CB OT p.1073

Sin is breaking a relationship. “Ah, sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, children who deal corruptly! They have forsaken Jehovah, they have despised the Holy One of Israel, they are utterly estranged.” Isaiah 1:4, CB OT p. 1073

Sin is breaking a relationship. “And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’” Luke 15:21, CB NT p. 139

Sin is breaking a relationship. “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’ Being then God's offspring” Acts 17:28-29, CB NT p. 241

Sin is breaking a relationship. As a father shows compassion to his children, so Jehovah shows compassion to those who fear him. Psalm 103:13, CB OT p. 946

Sin is breaking a relationship. Sin is inside of me. Sin is breaking the law.
