slide 1: Bifacial Cells Module : Optimizing the Power of the Sun Solar cell traditionally consists of semiconducting material with an interfacing junction. The junction is created by a n-type semiconducting material having free charges and p-type semiconducting material having holes. The junction generally requires an exciter to become functional. In case of a solar cell the exciter is the solar irradiation. When the irradiation hits the surface of the junction free charge carriers are energized and traverse across the junction to fill the holes. This movement of the carriers induces a current in the opposite direction also generating a voltage across the junction. Mono Facial Solar Panels: The traditional solar panels are designed to absorb light only from the front side of the slide 2: panel. The other side is covered by an opaque sheet known as the backsheet. That is larger the number of cells in the panel larger the generation and hence higher the efficiency. Traditional solar panels are limited in their efficiency. Theoretical estimates suggest an efficiency close to 20-21. The solar industry has evolved enough to make the technology affordable but still the lower realizable efficiency is a problem. Bifacial Solar Panels: Practically one of the easier ways to increase the working efficiency of a solar panel would be to make it able to absorb light from both sides considering the fact that some of the irradiation bounces on the ground/ roof as the case may be and goes under-utilized. The technology for a bifacial cell has been in the research and development domainssince the earlier the 60’s the first cell being developed in the late 70’s. slide 3: A bifacial solar cell allows simultaneous and efficient conversion of light from the front as well as the rear side into electricity. BIFACIAL modules generate power from the front as well as from the back side. As the backside makes use of the reflected and scattered light from the surroundings the modules can yield up to 40 power more depending on the albedo. The innovative technology offers superior low irradiance performance in the morning in the evening and on cloudy days increasing the energy output of the module and the overall yield of the solar system. Bifacial Solar Panels And The Industry A few manufacturers have started to commercialize the bifacial technology and started supplying bifacial solar panels. Even the industry has shown an organic drift to bifacial technology seeking better efficiency and optimized balance of system. Benefits Of Bifacial Solar Module 1.
