The Sussex Energy Saving Partnership (SESP) 2

Our vision for Sussex • Energy use reduced: warmer homes and lower energy bills for all residents • Carbon emissions reduced: target 50% by 2025 • Health & wellbeing improved for vulnerable older, young, disabled and fuel poor residents • Local economy strengthened: jobs created and safeguarded, training and apprenticeships

4 Implementing SESP First projects to gain experience and build confidence in the supply chain  Investment grade audits of WSCC buildings – detailed specialist surveys, – potential for renewables included – retrofit plan for each building, basis of the investment decision – diverse funding sources – integrate with planned maintenance where possible – better working conditions as well as lower consumption Other SESP partners to join IGA programme after pilot phase

Implementing SESP in schools  Similar investment grade audits to our other buildings  Good solar PV and biomass heating potential  Governors and school management develop work programme with SESP  integrate with other maintenance/upgrades  pay-as-you-save for loans  better learning environment  ‘Green Shoots’ educational support for schools and community outreach 5

Implementing SESP - solar  Solar PV – key part of SESP strategy – at all scales from household to community buildings, large roofs and solar farms – support to social housing residents – varied financing models  Solar thermal – where finance available from householder 6

Implementing SESP at home  Household offer – social housing, private rented and owner occupied – first offer was to fuel poor households using HHCRO ECO funding – aim for whole house treatment: ‘fit for 2050’ – pilot first with our staff and early enquiries – use Green Deal process and all incentives – tailor offer to the type of household – use FiT and domestic RHI payments as part of package 7

Complementary projects  DECC Green Deal Communities – promotes area based approach – solid wall insulation focus, ECO and Green Deal funding – announcement from DECC any day now?  Community Energy Peer Mentoring – 10 community energy projects supported – mentoring by successful existing projects e.g. Ovesco – over next year ending with new groups raising funding for first projects 8

Finance for energy saving 9 WSCC Kickstart, £2m PWLB through LEP, £66m ECO Green Deal SESP partner investment Self finance DECC & other government initiatives
