We’ve come a Mighty Long Ways: We’ve come a Mighty Long Ways (Romans 13:11) And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. (Romans 13:12) The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. (Romans 13:13) Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. (Romans 13:14) But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. 1. We Should Remember: 1. We Should Remember (1 Thessalonians 5:1) But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. (1 Thessalonians 5:2) For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. (1 Thessalonians 5:3) For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. (1 Thessalonians 5:4) But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. (1 Thessalonians 5:5) Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. (1 Thessalonians 5:6) Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. (1 Thessalonians 5:7) For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. (1 Thessalonians 5:8) But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. (1 Thessalonians 5:9) For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, (1 Thessalonians 5:10) Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. 2. Given to Exercise: 2. Given to Exercise (Ecclesiastes 3:1) To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: (Ecclesiastes 3:2) A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; (Ecclesiastes 3:3) A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; (Ecclesiastes 3:4) A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; (Ecclesiastes 3:5) A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; (Ecclesiastes 3:6) A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; (Ecclesiastes 3:7) A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; (Ecclesiastes 3:8) A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. (Ecclesiastes 3:9) What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth ? (Ecclesiastes 3:10) I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it . 3. Have You Been Born Again?: 3. Have You Been Born Again? (John 3:7) Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. (John 3:8) The wind bloweth where it listeth , and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth : so is every one that is born of the Spirit. (John 3:9) Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? (John 3:10) Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? (John 3:11) Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. (John 3:12) If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? (John 3:13) And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. (John 3:14) And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: (John 3:15) That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. (John 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 4. Our Hope to the End: 4. Our Hope to the End (1 Peter 1:13) Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; (1 Peter 1:14) As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: (1 Peter 1:15) But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; (1 Peter 1:16) Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. (1 Peter 1:17) And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: (1 Peter 1:18) Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; (1 Peter 1:19) But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: (1 Peter 1:20) Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, (1 Peter 1:21) Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. (1 Peter 1:22) Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: 5. From the Beginning: 5. From the Beginning (1 John 1:1) That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (1 John 1:2) (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) (1 John 1:3) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. (1 John 1:4) And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. (1 John 1:5) This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:6) If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: (1 John 1:7) But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. (1 John 1:8) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (1 John 1:9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:10) If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. 6. Watch Therefore: 6. Watch Therefore (Matthew 24:42) Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. (Matthew 24:43) But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. (Matthew 24:44) Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. (Matthew 24:45) Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? (Matthew 24:46) Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. (Matthew 24:47) Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. (Matthew 24:48) But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; (Matthew 24:49) And shall begin to smite his fellowservants , and to eat and drink with the drunken; (Matthew 24:50) The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, (Matthew 24:51) And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
