What is Journey to Excellence • Journey to Excellence is the basic way we measure and recognize success in the Boy Scouts of America • Three levels of performance • Use actual numbers from the previous year to guide your performance improvement goal planning. • The crew youth leaders should take the lead in making this assessment.. 3

Council Standards of Venturing Excellence Represents the Quality standards required of a Council Venturing Program Requires a Council VOA • Council Venturing President & VOA Advisor • Council Venturing VPs & Advisors • All Crew Presidents and their Advisor 4

Journey to Excellence Award Levels Scouting.org/JTE • Bronze level – 700 points in at least 8 objectives • Silver Level – 1,000 points in at least 8 objectives • Gold Level – 1,600 points in at least 8 objectives • 2,600 maximum points available in 2014 • Crews with a charter renewal date in any month from October 2014 to September 2015 5

2 of 10: Building Venturing Have an increase in membership or be larger than the average size crew. Must have a membership growth plan that includes a recruitment night … Bronze … and either a net gain of 1 member over last year or at least 7 members. 75 Silver … and either increase youth members by 5% or have at least 10 member 150 Gold … and either increase youth members by 10% or have at least 15 members with an increase over last year. 300 7

3 of 10: Retention Improve retention rate. Bronze Retain and re-register 45% of eligible members or have a 2 percentage point increase. 6 of 10: Trained Leadership Bronze Have a trained and engaged crew committee. Have an Advisor and a committee with at least three members. 75 Silver Achieve Bronze, plus Advisor and two-thirds of other registered adults have completed basic leader training or, if new, will complete within three months of joining 150 Gold Achieve Silver, plus 50% of youth participate in Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews. 300 11

10 of 10: Annual Charter Renewal Process Complete charter registration, obtain all signatures and submit the paperwork prior to expiration of charter.
