Excavation Defined:  Excavation Defined 76-2308 “Excavation shall mean any condition in which earth, rock, or other material in or on the ground is moved or otherwise displaced…” Hand digging is not exempt from law! Excavator should not request the re-marking of the facility less than 3 business days after the “work to begin date” on the Locate Request Ticket. Emergencies:  Emergencies Emergencies:  Emergencies 76-2307 “Emergency condition shall mean any condition which constitutes a clear and present danger to life, health, or property or which demands immediate action to prevent or repair a major service outage.” Emergencies:  Emergencies Don’t call in bogus emergencies. They waste everyone's time!!!! Plan your work Emergencies:  Emergencies What is Utility’s required response time? Law does not state any. Metro Areas, 2 hours or less is preferred Non Metro Areas will vary… Utility should respond to excavator by phone as soon as possible to verify schedule. (address, driving directions, dig area, etc.) Miscellaneous:  Miscellaneous Work with the locators, they in turn will work with you. Form relationship with locators in your area. Law allows for locators to arrange to a meet with the excavator (76-2323).
