Social Software Basically, it’s a “ software that support group interactions ” (Allen, 2004; Owen et al ., 2006) Akhmad Riza Faizal, 04/12/2008 Wikipedia (2008) Futurelab (Owen et al ., 2006) Patrick & Dotsika (2006) blogs, clipping, instant messaging, internet forums, internet relay chat, eLearning, Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs), media sharing, media cataloging, personals, social bookmarking, social cataloging, social citations, social evolutionary computation, social networks, social scripting, virtual worlds, and wikis. Text-based software (Weblogs, wiki, social bookmarking and tagging, fan fiction sites, RSS), Audio-visual software (Codeck, Broadcast Machine, radiowaves), spatial and geographic social software (Google Earth), Finding like minds (profile matching systems, affinity systems, personal networks), mobile phone software (Push toTalk, Mobiluck) Online services, online networks (social and business), collaborative shared/writings, Tools/Services (communication, group discussion, media sharing), Open standards (web services, content aggregation, network sharing, persona identity, reputation system), New forms of collective action (Open Source, Civil Society Projects, Smart Mobs)

Usage of Social Software Based on availability score of social software in observated websites 9 invitations were distributed, 4 of them responded (Unila, Unsri, Unpad, Unsoed). Some Findings (translated): ” ... I asked students to put their writings in their blogs, afterwards I select some of the best articles as a component in semester exam, as my appreciation to the students. This semester ...from 40 students, who participates in my political communication class, 23 students have their own blogs.” ” ... I just uses file sharing website for about a year. ...mostly I used it for downloading open source software, such as Linux...” ” ...for instance, understanding of public services advertising (PSA) product can be mediated by PSA examples that I found from YouTube, especially for Social Marketing subject...” Akhmad Riza Faizal, 04/12/2008

Based on availability score of social software in observated websites 9 invitations were distributed, 4 of them responded (Unila, Unsri, Unpad, Unsoed).

Other comments... ” ... I joined Friendster since 2005... the funny thing is, I met my students more than others. So, social networking in fact could be a feedback for me if students do not understand some materials in my class, asking for schedule, even as a medium for them to talk to me more ’heart to heart ’...” ” ... Once, I gave my students an assignment with this feature (Blogs) and then I received protest from the students because it’s cost them more money to access the internet, in that time there was no free internet access in my university.” ” Generally in my faculty, there are many people who still do not understand this technology even though the Dean office has facilitated it.
