What was the hardest part of writing your resume?

Resume CHecklist 1.  Header 2.  Profile 3.  Education 4.  Experience/Involvement 5.  Interests 6.  Formatting

Formatting Margins (minimum: 1.5cm all around) Font (minimum size: 10pt) Resume written in third person Consistency: periods, commas, caps, dates, fonts, italics, bolding (don’t overformat) •  Alignment (aligned to the left vs. aligned to the right) •  Location (city and province) •  Header: •  •  •  •  –  Size of name –  Contact information –  Preferred vs. legal name

Profile •  Reasonable size (4 lines max) •  Tailored to job posting (uses their words or synonyms) •  Third person •  Profile statements must be backed up by the statements in the rest of the resume

Education •  “BCom”, not Bcom or BComm •  Degree must precede school name •  Relevant courses to the job posting; no grocery lists •  Total of scholarship winnings as opposed to listing off scholarships •  When to list grades: Cumulative average >75; individual classes >80

Experience (RAC statements) •  Most recent first à reverse chronological order by end date •  Uses a variety of accomplishment verbs (same verb can be used max 2 times) •  90% are in RAC format, some can be switched around if it flows better •  Write out numbers: zero-ten, 11, 12, 13+ •  1-2 lines long (can be more for highly relevant or recent experiences) •  Always write in past tense •  Concise (try to eliminate filler words: “and”, “the”)

Interests •  Be as specific as possible •  Able to talk to for at least 5 minutes •  Variety (i.e. not just all sports) •  Tailored to job (when possible)

Resume activity: RESUME PEER REVIEW •  Write your job position in top right hand corner •  We will all edit one section together and then swap resume to the next person R 40 minutes
