Tools Every DIYer Should Own A wave of independence from spending money to have others provide products and services has swept the nation in what has been known as the Do It Yourself movement or DIY. With the do-it-yourself attitude that many individuals and families have adopted over the recent years there has been an unprecedented level in the number of people who are tackling projects they would not have dreamed they would be tackling. From crafting household decorations and children’s toys with their own hands to fixing the plumbing and repairing the roof with their own newly acquired skills, these individuals are proving that selfsufficiency goes far beyond making money and stretches into the realms of craftsmanship and bluecolor working. But for all of those weekend warriors who bravely accept the challenge from their leaky pipes and broken doorknobs, there are certain tools that cannot be done without. For every DIYer who wishes to be proficient at fixing their own homes and taking on the duties of homeownership and maintenance themselves as well as those who simply have the do-it-yourself attitude when it comes to arts and crafts and simple woodworking projects there are a few basic tools that are required in every toolbox. Some of these essential tools may already be owned, but the others will need to be acquired soon so as to allow for further explorations into the DIY world of home repair. Claw Hammer One of the first tools that should be in every home’s toolbox is the claw hammer. Claw hammers are the tools what most people think of when they hear the word “hammer” but there are multiple types of hammers available, as well as multiple types of specific claw hammers, so getting the right hammer will be important. Claw hammers are distinguished by their hammer head on one edge of the tool and their nail-pulling claw on the reverse edge. Claw hammers can be used for multiple jobs around the home and are an essential first step in compiling needful tools in the home. Screwdriver Another essential tool for the home’s toolbox is the screwdriver. Here again there are multiple types and sizes of screwdrivers available, and while it is nice to have a wide range of available options when it comes to sizes of drivers, a person can get by sufficiently for most jobs with a medium sized flathead and a medium sized Phillips head screwdriver.

Pliers In addition to the claw hammer and the two screwdrivers, every inhome toolbox should be equipped with a pair of good pliers. Once again, among all of the options for pliers, the two that will be used the most include needle-nosed pliers and vise-grip or locking pliers and these two are all that are required for most tasks. Crescent Wrench The one tool that will be used the most, however, and the one tool that will come in handy more often than not is the standard crescent wrench. Adjustable crescent wrenches can be modified to fit the size of the nut or bolt they are being used on and will be very valuable to the DIYer compiling their first toolbox.
