Spring Training is your chance to see your team’s new lineup in action before the start of the season. Depending on which team you love, you will either be visiting the Cactus League in Arizona or the Grapefruit League in Florida. Here are some great tips for planning your spring training adventure.
Each team has deals worked out with local hotels, so you can get a great deal on your room. You can get a package that includes dinner with some of your favorite players. Game tickets, a rental car, and airfare are included in most packages.
All of the stadiums in the spring training leagues are located within driving distance of each other. Consider getting tickets to a rival team’s stadium to see your team in action at an away game. In some cases, you can get cheaper tickets this way.
It’s a lot easier to get autographs at spring training than it is in the regular season. Come prepared with a pen (or three) and any items you want signed. Remember your manners. The nicer you are to a player, the more likely he is to remember you even if he couldn’t sign when you first asked.
You will be able to find lots of team merchandise that you can’t find online. Bring enough money to buy spring training t-shirts, hats, and other keepsakes. You can arrange to have these items shipped to your home before you leave. This will save space in your suitcases.
Take advantage of the lawn seats instead of sitting in the stands. You get a great view of the field, and you won’t have to worry about seeing past the person in front of you. Bring a blanket and set up a picnic for you and your friends to enjoy the game.
The weather will be warm, so you won’t need to pack a lot of extra layers. Be sure to bring your team hat and t-shirts so you are dressed for each game. Don’t worry about wearing your team’s logo at opposing stadiums. Spring training has a much more friendly atmosphere than regular season games.
The businesses surrounding the stadiums look forward to spring training all year. Many restaurants offer discounts to people visiting for the spring season. Keep your ticket stubs. Sometimes these will serve as your coupon for great local deals.
