Description

One more tournament, one more ouster for Team India. This has been the story sofar for the world champs since the end of the last year. After losing in South Africa and New Zealand, the fans thought that Asia Cup was the perfect opportunity to end the barren run but the same old story was repeated. India couldn’t make it to the finale after losing to Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The defeat against the main rivals was because of some poor performances from batsman and the bowlers. According to me, this struggling team should work on certain points in order to revive their season.
Need for a fast bowler
There is one bowler in every team, who is captain’s go to bowler. He is the one on whom the skipper of the team relies to hunt down opposition. Lasith Malinga of Sri Lanka, Dale Steyn of South Africa, Mitchell Johnson of Australia, Tim Southee of New Zealand, James Anderson of England and Ravi Rampaul of West Indies, are the few examples of captain’s go to bowler. They have taken wickets whenever captain has asked them to bowl but it is completely opposite as far India is concerned. There is hardly any bowler, who can be called Dhoni’s trump card. The Indian bowlers are famous for leaking runs rather than taking wickets. The BCCI needs to be proactive in ensuring that upcoming fast bowlers are given helpful conditions, which can help them in the longer run.
Grooming of batsmen
India is labeled as the land of quality batsmen but this is not true if you look at some of the current results. The batsmen have failed miserably in all the formats of the game and have become a burden on the team. Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh and few more haven’t scored since long, which is the reason behind India’s downward slide. The worrying factor has been the mode of their dismissals which is similar in almost all the matches. Rohit Sharma has a habit of poking outside the off stump while Raina is famous for his weakness against the short ball. Yuvraj Singh lose drives is the main mode of his dismissal, which has led to his ouster from the ODIs. These three are talented but the time is running out for them. They will have to learn from their mistakes so that problematic areas are solved. The Indian board will have to appoint former greats who can look after the established ones and can also groom the new talent.
Better spinners required
R Ashwin is only good on the Indian pitches while Jadeja is not the big turner of the ball. The team needs bowlers, who can take wickets on any sort of wicket. A spinner is known for his variation and the ability of turning his deliveries. Ashwin has not done anything commendable on the foreign pitches, which has caused India big time. Harbhajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha are the two bowlers, who can win matches on the basis of their quality bowling. It’s high for the selectors to call back these two in place of Ashwin, who is struggling since long.
