 A private Ob/Gyn practitioner based in Los Angeles, California, Dr. Regina Edmond received her medical training at the University of California at San Diego School of Medicine and the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing. In addition to providing comprehensive prenatal care and performing vaginal and cesarean deliveries, Dr. Regina Edmond treats patients who suffer from a wide range of gynecological conditions, including uterine fibroids.

 Uterine fibroids are benign tumors that commonly develop in the uterus. Approximately three in four women will develop uterine fibroids at some point in their lives, but the condition often goes undetected. Although uterine fibroids are benign (noncancerous), they can cause sharp pelvic pain, profuse menstrual bleeding, and other health problems, if they become too large. In such cases, doctors can prescribe several medical treatments based upon the age and general condition of the patient in question. These treatments may include symptomatic care, such as oral contraceptives that control excessive bleeding, or noninvasive surgical procedures, such as hysteroscopic resection and uterine artery embolization. When medication and noninvasive approaches fail, open surgery may be necessary to remove the fibroids.
