Visual Arts Gr.9-12 Proficient - 3.4 Discuss the purposes of art in selected contemporary cultures. Visual Arts Gr.9-12 Proficient - 5.0 Students apply what they learn in the visual arts across subject areas. They develop competencies and creative skills in problem solving, communication, and management of time and resources that contribute to lifelong learning and career skills. They also learn about careers in and related to the visual arts. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.R.7 Integrate and evaluate content presented in diverse media and formats, including visually and quantitatively, as well as in words. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between art and new technologies, including identifying and analyzing the impacts of new technologies on artists and conversely the role of creativity in developing new technologies. Students will explore artistic intent and be able to identify the purpose of artworks through careful analysis works, determine value of the work and justify an opinion about the effectiveness of the work, being sure to reference the artist’s intent and the context in which the artwork was created. Unit Activities: Unit Activities Direct instruction: Presentation to introduce new concepts, new vocabulary and the unit learning goals. Student Inquiry: Students gather, analyze, and apply information from a number of written and video sources. Students problem solve as they adapt information gathered in research. Technology Rich Opportunities in the Visual Arts: Technology Rich Opportunities in the Visual Arts The impact of technology on art in contemporary culture and on artists is especially relevant today. The roles of artists are ever changing and the definition of artist seems to begin overlapping with the title of engineer, political scientist, architect, etc. The unit will provide an at a glance overview of careers in fine art, and will explore the relationship between art and other disciplines.
