What does CMS say? • “For 2015 and later, Medicare eligible professionals who do not successfully demonstrate Meaningful Use will have a payment adjustment to their Medicare reimbursement. The payment reduction starts at 1% and increases each year that a Medicare eligible professional does not demonstrate Meaningful Use, to a maximum of 5%.”

The importance of 2014 • Medicare Eligible Professionals (EPs) and Eligible Hospitals (EHs) that have attested in 2012 but do not meet the requirements in 2013 will lose their incentive payments in 2013 • On the other hand, Medicaid EPs and EHs, by adopting certified EHRs, can receive the initial payments. They will be penalized in 2015 if they fail to demonstrate MU three months before the end of 2014
