The Kindle First Generation device retailed for US$399. Amazon subsequently lowered the price to $359. The Kindle First Generation device features a 6 inch (diagonal) 4-level grayscale display, with 250MB of internal memory, which can hold approximately 200 non-illustrated titles, and the memory is expandable with an SD memory card. Kindle 2 : Kindle 2 On February 10, 2009, Amazon announced the Kindle 2. The Kindle 2 became available for purchase on February 23, 2009. The Kindle 2 features 2GB of internal memory slimmer than the original Kindle, 6-inch, 16-level grayscale, improved battery life, 20 percent faster page-refreshing, a text-to-speech option to read the text aloud, and overall thickness reduction from 0.8 to 0.36 inches (9.1mm) Kindle 3 : Kindle 3 Amazon announced two new versions of the Kindle on July 28, 2010. One of these, the Kindle Wi-Fi, is initially priced at $139, and will connect to the internet exclusively via public or private Wi-Fi networks. The other version, considered a replacement to the Kindle 2, is priced at $189 and includes both 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity Slide 9: The Kindle 3 with 3G is available in two colors: classic white and graphite, while the Wi-Fi-only version just comes in graphite. Can the Kindle be the iPad? : Can the Kindle be the iPad? They’re Two Different Products For A Reason. Kindle is primarily for e-books. iPad can be used to read e-books, but it’s not designed exclusively to do so. People don’t buy it to surf the Web, to watch movies, and to play games, for all this we have iPad. Some people simply like to read books, and for them the Kindle (and others like it) is the perfect device.
