A message on blessing others

The “BLESS” Effect Gen 27:21-27??

I. A Blessing Needs To Be Felt 21 Then Isaac said to Jacob, "Please come closer so I can touch you, my son. Are you really my son Esau, or not?"

21 Then Isaac said to Jacob, "Please come closer so I can touch you, my son. Are you really my son Esau, or not?"

Genesis 27:21-29 (HCSB) 21 Then Isaac said to Jacob, "Please come closer so I can touch you, my son. Are you really my son Esau, or not?" 22 So Jacob came closer to his father Isaac. When he touched him, he said, "The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau." 23 He did not recognize him, because his hands were hairy like those of his brother Esau; so he blessed him.

Genesis 27:21-29 (HCSB)

21 Then Isaac said to Jacob, "Please come closer so I can touch you, my son. Are you really my son Esau, or not?"

22 So Jacob came closer to his father Isaac. When he touched him, he said, "The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau." 23 He did not recognize him, because his hands were hairy like those of his brother Esau; so he blessed him.

24 Again he asked, "Are you really my son Esau?"     And he replied, "I am." 25 Then he said, "Serve me, and let me eat some of my son's game so that I can bless you." Jacob brought it to him, and he ate; he brought him wine, and he drank.

24 Again he asked, "Are you really my son Esau?"

    And he replied, "I am."

25 Then he said, "Serve me, and let me eat some of my son's game so that I can bless you." Jacob brought it to him, and he ate; he brought him wine, and he drank.

26 Then his father Isaac said to him, "Please come closer and kiss me, my son.“ 27 So he came closer and kissed him. When Isaac smelled his clothes, he blessed him and said: Ah, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the LORD has blessed.

26 Then his father Isaac said to him, "Please come closer and kiss me, my son.“

27 So he came closer and kissed him. When Isaac smelled his clothes, he blessed him and said: Ah, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the

LORD has blessed.

28 May God give to you — from the dew of the sky and from the richness of the land — an abundance of grain and new wine. 29 May peoples serve you and nations bow down to you. Be master over your brothers; may your mother's sons bow down to you. Those who curse you will be cursed, and those who bless you will be blessed.

28 May God give to you — from the dew of the sky and from the richness of the land — an abundance of grain and new wine.

29 May peoples serve you and nations bow down to you. Be master over your brothers; may your mother's sons bow down to you. Those who curse

you will be cursed, and those

who bless you will be blessed.

In the Scriptures, touch played an important part in the bestowal of the family blessing.

Have you ever noticed how often the Gospel writers speak of Jesus touching people?

Jesus modeled for us the communication of a blessing through touch.

II. A Blessing Needs To Be Spoken 27 So he came closer and kissed him. When Isaac smelled his clothes, he blessed him and said: Ah, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the LORD has blessed.

27 So he came closer and kissed him. When Isaac smelled his clothes, he blessed him and said: Ah, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the LORD has blessed.

Begin communicating your blessing to others

III. A Blessing Attaches Special Value To the Person 27 So he came closer and kissed him. When Isaac smelled his clothes, he blessed him and said: Ah, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the LORD has blessed. 28 May God give to you— from the dew of the sky and from the richness of the land — an abundance of grain and new wine.

27 So he came closer and kissed him. When Isaac smelled his clothes, he blessed him and said: Ah, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the LORD has blessed.

28 May God give to you— from the dew of the sky and from the richness of the land — an abundance of grain and new wine.

29 May peoples serve you and nations bow down to you. Be master over your brothers; may your mother's sons bow down to you. Those who curse you will be cursed, and those who bless you will be blessed.

29 May peoples serve you and nations bow down to you. Be master over your brothers; may your mother's sons bow down to you. Those who curse you will be cursed, and those who bless you will be blessed.

1 Corinthians 11:23-29 23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: on the night when He was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread, 24 gave thanks, broke it, and said, "This is My body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me."

23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: on the night when He was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread, 24 gave thanks, broke it, and said, "This is My body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me."

1 Corinthians 11:23-29 25 In the same way [He] also [took] the cup, after supper, and said, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.

25 In the same way [He] also [took] the cup, after supper, and said, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.
