Slide 1: The Argument from Design Slide 2: The car is not something that ‘just exists’ The car exists because it was designed by someone for a reason. Slide 3: We say that the car does not ‘just exist’ by chance because it is very complex; if the car did not have all the right parts assembled in the right way, it would not work. This suggests that there must be a designer who knows how to make a car. Slide 4: If we look at the world, we see it is a complex place, this may lead us to think the world was designed. Slide 5: Evidence of Complexity & Design: photosynthesis Slide 6: Fertilisation & reproduction Slide 7: The water cycle Slide 8: Finely balanced eco systems Slide 9: DNA and micro biology Slide 10: Since the world is so complex, it seems reasonable to think that it does not exist by chance. If the world was designed, there must be a designer. Slide 11: The only possible designer is God. Therefore… God exists. Slide 12: A watch is a very complex object. The watch must have been designed. It must have a designer. The world is even more complex than a watch. The world must also have a designer. The only possible designer of the world is God Therefore God exists. William Paley, 1743 -1805 Paley’s Watch One version of this argument is known as ‘Paley’s Watch.
