Presentation given by Katie Floyd ( and @katiefloyd) at Macworld/iWorld 2014 on March 29, 2014

It’s never been more tempting to become a “cord cutter” and ditch a traditional cable or satellite television subscription. Current technology and service offerings have made a nearly limitless supply of media available for download or streaming on-demand. Still, piecing together a user-friendly system can be a daunting task. This session will explore the current offerings available and discuss beset practices for putting together an Apple-centric home media center. Topics covered will include streaming video services, the latest set-top box offerings, iOS App options and creating a Mac mini based media center. In addition to discussing the technology and services available, we’ll also explore the “bigger picture” questions of whether creating an Apple Media center makes practical and economic sense. Including exploring the costs both in time and hardware investment needed to get up and running.

Ready To Get Started?

Here are a few questions to consider…

What do you watch?

Where is your content available?

Are there alternatives to your current service?

What equipment do you have and what does it support?

Any technology limitations?

Cost of initial investment?

Monthly costs for content?

What are your realistic monthly savings, if any?

Is everyone on board?

Is it worth the hassle?

Common Mistakes • Buying unnecessary gadgets • Spending too much on content • Getting overly complicated • Forgetting to consider the rest of the household

Thanks! @katiefloyd
