Task 6 - Evaluation I decided to create six designs, where I could experiment with different styles and typefaces in order to make each specific word relate to its meaning, so to speak. I initially chose the word ‘question’, as I thought that I could shape the term into an actual question mark. I thought that this looked rather effective, as the consumer would be able to distinguish the shape clearly and tie it in with the word itself. I used a simple, san-serif font for this, as I thought that it required no sense of extravagancy, as the shape displayed enough emphasis itself. Therefore, no bold aspect was required. Furthermore, I also used a standard san-serif font upon the word ‘juggle’, which was similar to that of my previous typeface experiment in the sense that it had a distinguishable shape to it, mimicking the action of juggling, so to speak. I decided to use a pink colour for the font instead of black, as it stands out and will initially catch the attention of the viewer more. The ‘launch’ and ‘add’ experiments were slightly different in the sense that I used ‘abstract’ typefaces, which made the pieces of text appear more eye-catching and unique. The ‘launch’ text was supposed to emulate an actual ‘launch’ or rocket take-off itself, whilst the ‘add’ word was duplicated as a way of conveying the meaning of the word into the overall piece. Moreover, the ‘grin’ and ‘curve’ pieces of text were intended to be self-explanatory in the sense that they represented the meaning of the word clearly, with ‘grin’ being in the form of a smiley face, whilst the ‘curve’ text was meant to be shaped in accordance with the meaning of the word. Overall, I think that my first experiment (question) was the most successful, as it represented the symbolic aspect of the word and the audience would be able to recognise this, from the shape in which the lettering had been formed into.
