Sydney City: Sydney City Sydney is the capital of the state New South Wales and the most crowded city in Australia. It is situated to the south-east coast of Australia, on the Tasman Sea. Peoples of Sydney are called Sydneysiders, comprising an international population. Sydney was established in 1788 at Sydney Cove by Captain Arthur Phillip. Sydney has hosted multiple major international sporting events, the 2000 Summer Olympics and the final of the 2003 Rugby World Cup. The city is built on hills adjoining one of the world's largest natural harbours, Port Jackson, which is generally known as Sydney Harbour, where the iconic Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge are famous structures. Taronga Zoo is managed by the Zoological Parks Board of New South Wales, under the trading name Taronga Conservation Society. Separated into eight zoogeographic regions, the 21-hectare Taronga Zoo is home to over 2,600 animals of 340 species. It has a zoo shop, a cafe, and information centre.
