Portrait of the Soul Winner:  Portrait of the Soul Winner Their EARS are open to the cries for help from a lost and dying world. Their EYES are ever searching for a receptive heart, in which to plant the Word of God. Their LIPS are always ready and willing to proclaim the glory of God. Their HANDS are always turning the pages of God’s Holy Word, seeking His will for them. Their FEET are on the move to carry out the words of Christ to preach the gospel to every creature. Portrait of Soul Winner (cont’d):  Portrait of Soul Winner (cont’d) Their HEARTS are beating and breaking with the urgency to reach the lost before it’s too late. Their HEADS are bowed in a prayer to the Father in heaven, to give them wisdom to carry out the mission. Their FACES glow with the hope that is in them. Their LIVES are like the light of the city set upon a hill that cannot be hid. They are the light of the world. In Christ they live, and move, and have their being. Making the Approach . . .:  Making the Approach . . . Not cold or mechanical, but warm and heart-felt. Integrated and blended into your lifestyle, not compartmentalized. Blessed privilege – natural outgrowth of your deep and meaningful relationship with the Lord. “It is so much what you know, but Who you have come to know, and how badly you want others to know Him!” A tree does not have to force itself to bear fruit! Communication principle #1::  Communication principle #1: Meet people at the point of their felt need. Mk 2:17 To find out, must first LISTEN. What do you say first? Ask: Where are you hurting? We must love and befriend people before we can effectively teach them. Lk 19:1-10 Communication principle #2:  Communication principle #2 The salvation comes in the message, but the preparation comes in the serving. What rule did John the Baptist play? Do we have a John the Baptist running ahead of us preparing the way? Must prepare the heart by showing genuine concern for them as a person. The approaches . . .:  The approaches . . . Written approach Write out a letter in your own handwriting, or type so it is personal. Send first class with hand written return address label. Sample -pg 125, Per. Evangelism 101– David Tant “Would you allow me to share with you a concept of simple, undenominational Christianity based solely on the Bible? I would like to at your convenience spend about an hour discussing something that is so simple it may revolutionize your thinking. No coercion, no pressure, just a Bible study together. I will call in a few days for your response, it is completely your decision.” Advantage – easier for soul-winner, does not take the person by surprise. Oral approaches . . .:  Oral approaches . . . The “Scattering seed” approach. Similar to throwing out bait. Mention something spiritual, your interest and love for the Bible… wait. Follow up later, they are more receptive. Shift in conversation approach Three simple questions . . .:  Three simple questions . . . If you were to die tonight, are you sure you would go to heaven? Get their salvation experience! If you could know how you could know for sure, would be interested? If I could show you from the Bible how you could know for sure would you be willing to do what it said? I Jn 5:13 Keys::  Keys: Be natural, enthusiastic, and understanding. Never doubt sincerity Avoid the acute angle, establish common ground. Personal Work Tools . . .:  Personal Work Tools . . . “It is amazing what you can accomplish if you have the right tool.” Equip and empower the saints with the right tools.:  Equip and empower the saints with the right tools. Bible slide rule – available for 50 years but still a good aid. Keep one in your Bible Reference Guide for Personal Workers —thin enough to keep in your Bible! Mark up and Chain-reference your Bible as outlined in Personal Evangelism 101, pg 128-129 New Testament with Study Helps Narrow/check book size NT’s designed for easy use.. The “Way Home New Testament” Inexpensive, pass out to visitors as your gift if they arrive without a Bible! Personal Work Tools . . .:  Personal Work Tools . . . Will the Real Heretics please stand up? A new look at today’s evangelical church in the light of early Christianity. David Bercot Powerful . . Former Presbyterian, no contact with brethren. Christian writings not inspired, but provide a reference point to understand what the interpretations were of those closest to the apostles. What believed about salvation What believed about predestination and free will Baptism The Witness of History – compiled by Christians Actual pages of the secular references copied Cessation of spiritual gifts, Sunday as Lord’s day, Lord’s supper every Sunday, no instrumental music, etc. Invitation/”Lord’s Business” Cards:  Invitation/”Lord’s Business” Cards Part of everyone having their own ministry. Keep a good number on your person so you can pass out as you have opportunity. Fill out with the member’s name and number instead of channeling everything through the elders or evangelist. Designed to peak curiosity and interest: Best to use a small “c” – church of Christ Denotes a relationship, not a universal proper name. Independent, Undenominational – Undenominational, I thought you were “Church of Christ?” List Elders (Pastors/Overseers) then Preacher/Evangelist The preacher is not a pastor – follow Phil 1:1 Pastors meet qualifications –I Tim 3, Titus 1 Consider a distinctive logo to represent the congregation:  Consider a distinctive logo to represent the congregation Sample Bulletin--Logo and Theme “Growing Together in God’s Word.”:  Sample Bulletin--Logo and Theme “Growing Together in God’s Word.” “Standing on the Rock” . . . Each member gets their own set . .:  “Standing on the Rock” . . . Each member gets their own set . . Taken from Folsom Point web site – Richard Harvey:  Taken from Folsom Point web site – Richard Harvey Sample #1:  Sample #1 Sample #2:  Sample #2 “TRUSTING IN THE LORD IN ALL THINGS” Jeremiah 17:7-8 Invitation/Personal Work Cards Inside of card . . .:  Invitation/Personal Work Cards Inside of card . . . “A church with a place for you!” A place for worship—to assemble and praise God A place of fellowship—to enjoy spiritual association A place of learning –to grow in Bible knowledge A place for service –to care for the needs of others A place of outreach – to share the good news of Jesus. Come and Find Your Place at the Folsom Point church of Christ! Invitation cards… :  Invitation cards… Have a map and service times so it is easy to find and remember. Many congregations have used them with good success…if it becomes a habit of the membership. Stand at the door and pass out each week to replenish their supply. Takes only about three weeks to establish a habit. Make it apart of your culture! Establish Soul-winning as a part of the “culture of Folsom Point”:  Establish Soul-winning as a part of the “culture of Folsom Point” Considerations: Congregational Vision statement— Sign: “You are now entering a mission field.” Prominent sign in foyer: “Our mission, seek and save the lost!” The key is an on-going emphasis and a continual commitment over time. Real basis for success is the kind of follow up that is done after the series is complete. A tale of two congregations . . . Not just one class using the material Offer the class periodically and inform all new members as a part of a “new member orientation” what personal work tools are available and the need for them to be trained in evangelism. We will have more conversions when we have more convictions:  We will have more conversions when we have more convictions “One man awake, can awaken another; The second can waken His next door brother. The three awake can rouse a town By turning the whole world upside down, The many awake can make such a fuss That it finally awakens the rest of us! One man up With dawn in his eyes, Multiplies!”
