How to access and use a dicussion board in your BlackBoard course

Discussion Boards

Click Discussion Board

Select a Forum

* ** Select a thread * Click Tree View (top right) to change the view. ** Choose the number of items per page.

In Tree View threads can be expanded

Click on a post

Reply to the post in this panel

1. Edit Subject if needed 2. Type reply post 3. Spell Check or Preview Post

4. Click the link to add an attachment if 5 available

Reply was posted

Flag a post Clicking Quote (if available) will automatically include the post (in this panel) in your reply

Post was flagged

2. Click Collect 1. Select posts

* ** ** Collected posts are displayed on one screen. * Posts can be printed ** Posts can be filtered or sorted.

Add a Thread

1. Include a subject 2. Type the post 3. Spell Check or Preview 4

The new thread is added to the forum

Depending on the type of discussion board, users may be able to edit, remove, or rate posts. Some discussion boards will not allow file attachments, and some will not allow the creation of new threads. For more information contact Lisa Hawkins at
