CYCLE OF ANALYSIS (Recap) • 1. INVESTIGATE – Where you explain how a specific aspect of performance was investigated through gathering and analysisng information. • 2. What is a structure / strategy? • A Structure can be a formation that a team adapts to apply a particular strategy which will hopefully bring about individual and team improvement. ( Football,3-5-2 creates width in midfield) • Structure is ‘non-moving’ eg 2-1-2 • Strategy is ‘moving’ eg fast break / long ball
How do we decide on a structure? FUNDAMENTALS• Using space to your advantage (offence) • Denying space (defence) • Tempo(offence / defence) • Advantages v Disadvantages of structures and strategies • Strengths and weakness of team / opponents
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITY What determines where you will play? • Physical Qualities Height / Pace / Strength • Personal Qualities Decision maker / Communicator • Position Guard / Forward / Centre • Skills Good outside shooter / Rebounder

STRUCTURE / FORMATION • ½ COURT M-F-M DEFENCE • 2-1-2 ZONE DEFENCE Formations / Structures have varying qualities. For example, man-for-man defence can be used if the team are fast in attack to slow the game down.
PRINCIPLES OF DEFENCE • PRESSURE… “on the ball carrier” • DELAY… “sagging off” “slowing down an attack” • BALANCE… “width” “height” • COVER… “depth”
