Settings Story Elements

What is the Setting? The setting is an element authors use influence the reader’s imagination. It tells us… what time of day it is. what the weather is like. where the story is located.

Settings use detail to bring the story alive – these details are based on the 5 senses. Why use these details? Because the reader can imagine the story’s world if they can… … hear it … see it … taste it … smell it … touch it

The setting can also help create a certain atmosphere. Y ou can use words to describe a very ordinary place and make it seem scary, fun, silly, etc. For example: We felt a cold breeze as we walked through the dark kitchen. Dark and cold are adjectives that describe the atmosphere therefore changing the kitchen from ordinary to scary.
