State Capitals of India There are 28 states, therefore there are 28 state capitals. As Chandigargh is the capital of Punjab and Haryana as well as it is a union territory, there are 28+1 state capitals.

India • India’s National Capital Territory is Delhi. • India extends to 3,214km in north-south and 2,933km. in east-west. • It has Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar as it’s neighbouring countries.

Srinagar • Srinagar is the capital of Jammu and Kashmir. • It is situated on the river Jhelum in the heart of the Vale of Kashmir. • It is connected to Leh via the Zoji La pass. • Saffron and mushroom are the distinctive products raised in the Vale of Kashmir. • A Rs. 6.5 crore Software Technology park has been commissioned at Ragreth, Srinagar. Simla • The capital of Himachal Pradesh is Simla. • Derives its name from goddess 'Shayamla Devi', which is another manifestation of Goddess Kali. • Capital of Himachal Pradesh is the leading town and the centre of education. • An important hill station of India famous for adventure sports. • Winter in Shimla is known as the season of "Long moon- night." Chandigarh • Chandigarh is a city and union territory in India that serves as the capital of two states, Haryana and Punjab . • The name Chandigarh translates as "The Fort of Chandi". The name is derived from an ancient temple called Chandi Mandir, devoted to the Hindu goddess Chandi, in the city. • It is also referred to as The City Beautiful due to its beautiful surroundings, central grid of gardens, each to dedicated to different species of flora. Imphal • Imphal is the capital of  the Indian state  of Manipur.  • On 18 June 1997, the  Imphal district was split  into Imphal East and  Imphal West.  • On 21 October 2008,  Imphal was struck by a  large scale terror  attack allegedly carried  out by Manipuri  insurgents fighting for a  sovereign Manipur.  Manipuri Dance
