Economic Sectors by Output Primary Sector Secondary Sector Tertiary Sector

Economic Sectors by their Product Primary Sector Secondary Sector Tertiary Sector Extracts or harvests products from the earth including the raw materials and basic foods. Manufactures finished goods. Provides services to the general public and to businesses. These three sectors, along with the Quaternary Sector (intellectual activates) and the Quinary Sector (decision makers i.e government) make up the economy.

Economic Sectors by Motive Private Sector Public Sector Funded by private individuals or groups who invest capital in a hope to receive greater capital in return in the future. Organisations in the private sector are profit driven. Funded by public money and overseen by the state, these are primarily driven by their requirement to offer services which benefit the whole of society.
