A long road journey from Mumbai to Delhi riding alone for thousands of smiles
What is the concept? The aim of the whole event is to raise awareness and support for the Ashraya Initiative for Children — a children's shelter in Pune, India. Ashraya takes a bold, unconventional approach to improving the lives of underprivileged children - In warm, caring ways that involves students from around the world. I am Romel Dias, velo rider for the trip, entrepreneur and social media expert who now showcases another passion...cycling and spreading the word. I shall undertake an arduous 15-18 day solo cycle journey across 1400 kms of hard country from Bombay to Delhi.
In partnership with the charity, the team undertaking the ride are: Romel Dias — the lone cyclist Pradeep Menon — storyteller – a writer, filmmaker & photographer - he will accompany Romel in a car documenting the journey. Dr. Pragati Singh — our medical head on the journey
How can you help? We can do with any sort of help for sure. a) Expenses for the trip, amounting to Rs. 2,00,000/- b) Logistics and services like arranging for end and starting point events c) Support vehicles and medical equipment d) Lodging for end of day stops. We have no hard and fast rules and are always willing to hear how you think you would like to participate and will ensure that the experience is a rewarding one.
We are aiming to raise the profile of Ashraya, and as a result we have approached mainstream press. The ride has so far been covered on Radio One and on social media. Hindustan Times is also looking to cover us. On social media alone, our estimated reach should be approximately between 40000-50000 eyeballs with the current partners. By the time we leave on the trip, it may be far greater. As far as print media is concerned, the partners we have spoken to have all been excited and we will keep updating you on the same. What are our targets?
Romel has already been covered by RJ Erica from FM Radio One. Hindustan Times has interviewed him and Pradeep about the ride and we have support from the likes of Bicycle Quarterly – a Seattle based magazine dedicated to the sport as well as Time Out Magazine in India. The ride is also being followed keenly by celebs such as Lianne Sanderson — England Womens National soccer team member Gilly Flaherty — England Womens National soccer team member Joanna Lohman — Professional Soccer Player for The Boston Breakers Siddharth Basrur — celebrity and vocalist on Coke Studio Shefali Alvares — celebrity and Bollywood singer ... Not to mention that this will be your donation and partnership with an NGO, something that will highlight your CSR initiatives on a national front. Can you benefit?
Where will your brand be seen? As a great attempt that combines sport, fitness and endurance..brands get additional coverage of their brand and company name via professional photography, filming and media inclusion of the charity ride.
