What is a Training Camp?:  What is a Training Camp? Training Camps are set up by National Olympic Committees and National Paralympic Committees as a base for athlete training and preparation for use in the weeks, months, and sometimes years, prior to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. These differ from Training Venues that are provided by LOCOG in close proximity to the Olympic Village for use by athletes during the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Bidding to be a Training Camp:  Bidding to be a Training Camp Sam Curling Manager, NOC & NPC Relations Holding Camps and Preparation Camps:  Holding Camps and Preparation Camps Also known as Holding Camps and Preparation Camps Holding Camps: A single training camp held in the weeks immediately prior to the Games. Athletes undertake final training in similar climatic conditions and time zone as their competition venue to improve focus and maximise performance Preparation Camps: A camp to train in facilities to be used for a Holding Camp in order to familiarise athletes and support staff with the location, in months/ years prior to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. London 2012’s obligation:  London 2012’s obligation To provide a Pre Games Training Camp Guide to each National Olympic Committee (NOC) and National Paralympic Committee (NPC). London 2012’s aim:  To encourage National teams to train in the UK prior to the 2012 Olympic Games & Paralympic Games by providing them access to the best possible facilities available in the UK To use Pre Games Training Camps to engage the whole country and spread the benefits of the Olympic & Paralympic Games throughout the UK To provide a balanced UK offer, reflecting the full range of Olympic and Paralympic sports and the geographical and cultural diversity of the UK.
