The Blog as a centerpiece… For our purposes, the Blog is the centerpiece of our social networking strategy. It is the primary content source, as well as the traffic target. We use broadcast products to bring traffic to the blog. (Twitter, Friendfeed and clones) We use media products to bring better content to the blog. (YouTube, Flickr, etc)

Active|Rain Active|Rain is a great tool for presenting material. Until the recent changes to Localism, its primary distribution was to other real estate professionals. Secondarily, the “Google-Juice” was great for SEO, drawing in consumers through searching.

Localism With the introduction of the new Localism, that can change. Localism is designed to “hold” the searchers. If the site is “stickier” then consumers will hang out to read more material. At that point, the sponsorships will begin to pay off, assuming that there is quality, relevant content to back them up.

A|R “Outside Blog” A|R’s Outside Blog platform in unique in that it provides A|R’s Google power, but with a user-owned domain. It eases content syndication between the traditional A|R blog and a self-branded blog. Its weakness is that the architecture is tied to that of A|R. It lacks the flexibility of many others, such as WordPress.

Two more… Plaxo Much like the other aggregators, but it is supposed to be more premium… and it costs. AtomKeep This is a profile syndicator. It pulls the info you have in almost any of your profiles and then broadcasts it to other networks.

Twitter me this… Twitter is a great syndication/broadcast medium. Using a service like TwitterFeed, you can send a message to your “followers” each time a blog is updated. Your followers can retweet it if they think others should read it. Twitter is also a fast way to interact with others TwitterLocal is a good way to find Twitterers in your area. Follow them… interact. Tweetscan will let you find people talking about specific things. Find people you know on other S/Ns, follow them.

Do I REALLY need to do all of this? No… But, you should keep in mind that Google has 10 spots on the front page. And… Google doesn’t like to give the same site more than two of those spots. So… With several sites working to your advantage, you can dominate the front page of Google by spreading your content across multiple locations.

Symbiosis Defined as living together… These sites live together. The utility of each is dependant on the other types of sites. Joining just one or two dramatically cuts the effectiveness of the strategy. Content and the richness of the delivery leads to more traffic. Wide distribution also leads to more traffic.
