Smashing Success with Social Media lifecoach2women.com /successstore/blog/smashing-success-with-social-media/ Case St udy: Smashburger Rest aurant How can a six- year- old burger joint jump right into the fast- food chain game and make a splash right from the start? That’s what we’re exploring this week as we take a closer look at Smashburger, a Denver- based upscale fast- food restaurant. Forbes named it Most Promising Business of the Year just a couple of years ago and now CEO David Prokupek declares Smashburger will be the “Starbucks of burgers”. Starbucks is like a celebrity brand Da vi d P r o ku p e k, CEO o f S m a s h b u r g e r . ( p h o to cr e d i t: Ei l e e n B l a s s , US A TO DAY ) with an amaz ing product (I personally love the green- tea soy latte, extra hot!). Starbucks dominates the coffee/cafe market and delivering a premium coffee experience. Now, Smashburger is going after that same brand recognition with its premium burger experience. Prokupek recently shared with USA Today why he believes the chain, which has opened 200 stores in five years with sales of $250 million, can within five years become a 1,000- unit chain with sales of $1 billion. Of course this comes with having a great product, which they do by the way. Smashburger serves fresh made- to- order burgers, with a variety of buns to choose from and toppings like avocado, green peppers, onions and romaine lettuce– plus a plethora of sides like smash fries, which come tossed with rosemary, olive oil and garlic. There’s also veggie frites and sweet potato fries. The company prides itself in providing a healthy, fresh, better burger than its competitors. They also serve your food in a wire basket with real eating utensils when you’re dining in. It’s certainly a place worth trying, if you can find one near you. One of the biggest components to Smashburger’s success is how they’ve used social media to build a buz z around every new location opening. With a tiny advertising budget, the company relies nearly 100% on social media marketing to fill the lines. Their formula is quite genius and works amaz ingly for online and offline businesses. Here’s what you can learn about building buz z for your business from Smashburger. 1. Test with your target audience. Smashburger reaches out to foodie mom bloggers and restaurant bloggers who set eating trends in their area, and invites them to a Smashburger experience, where they meet the CEO or another top executive. When you can influence the influencers of your target audience, you’re now creating waves in your industry through leveraging your marketing reach to include their audiences as well.

2. Act globally; think locally. Smashburger thrives in creating a local atmosphere for all of its locations. They have Twitter accounts dedicated to specific locations to make connections with the community and get the word out for their new locations. This is key when building your brand. When people can connect with you they become more intrigued. Once they get to know, like and trust you, they become great customers and raving fans. 3. Provide a premium product and experience. Once you get them in the door, make it worth their while. Smashburger’s formula gives the customer a lot of creative control over their eating experience and makes you feel better about your fast food eating choice. They give a new meaning to “having it your way”. The restaurant is a great alternative to the big three: McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s. Customers come back because of great food options, and will tell others as well. When you provide your customers with products and services that meet their needs, they will come back again and bring their contacts with them. Always set a high standard on what you deliver and give good customer service. With this kind of business strategy, it’s evident that Smashburger will continue to rise in the forthcoming years and become the “Starbucks of burgers.” You can do the same in your business. Rise above the competition with a premium product or service, attract your ideal client with creative social media marketing, and deliver the goods with style and class. You don’t need a large marketing budget to build a buz z in your business. Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are just a few of the many social media outlets you can use to creatively introduce your product to the right people and drive traffic and sales to your website. I show my clients exactly how it’s done in my Success Mastery Business Coaching Program, which starts soon in a couple of weeks. You can go here now to get a complimentary training and discover how to build a booming business for yourself.
