Automatic Piping Isometrics For Fabrication & Construction SmartPlant® Spoolgen® is specifically designed for piping fabricators who need to add fabrication and construction information to design isometrics delivered by EPCs, generated from 3D models held in plant design systems. Fabricators can use SmartPlant Spoolgen to easily split complete pipeline isometric drawings into spool drawings, which are then used to fabricate pipe spools in the workshop. Intergraph Corporation. All Rights Reserved. Types of Weld Workshop Weld - Workshop weld (or fabrication weld) are welds that will be done by a fabricator in the workshop. This is the most common type of weld in Spoolgen. This type of weld will always appear on the Spool drawing. Workshop weld shape Site weld - Site weld (or field weld) are welds that will be performed on site. The pipe is cut to the exact length and prepared in the workshop, only the weld is added on site. This type of weld will never appear on the Spool drawing. This type of weld will always break a pipe into spools. Site weld shape Offshore Weld -Offshore weld are welds that will be performed on site, normally off shore. This type of weld is exactly the same as a site weld but is placed in a different category and has a different graphical shape, as the name suggests it is to be used on offshore sites. Types of Weld Field fit weld... - Adds a weld that is to be performed on site, however for this type of weld, the pipe is prepared in the workshop to be slightly too long, an allowance is added. The pipe will be cut to the exact length on site before the weld is added. A field fit weld is also shown with the text ‘FFW’ next to the weld. In this example, the pipes true length is 998mm, with an allowance of 150mm hence: 998 + 150 = 1148 The actual value of the allowance can be set either in the project as a default or ‘on the fly’ for each field fit weld. Types of Weld Tack welds Tack Welds are used to indicate components that are loosely attached during fabrication - with the final Weld being done on site. Tack welds are are used in conjunction with the other type of main welds, they are enabled by selecting Tack Weld from the pull down list on the Weld toolbar. Intergraph Corporation. All Rights Reserved. Types of Weld Shop Test Weld Are disposable Welds done specially for testing purposes, for example pressure testing. This type of weld also carries an allowance. This is a separate value to the FFW. Intergraph Corporation. All Rights Reserved. Types of Weld Automatic welds Automatic welds are butt welds that are to be made using a welding machine. This type of weld cannot be added to the isometric, it can only modify existing butt welds by probing an automatic weld on an existing butt weld. Automatic welds have a unique symbol to identify them. Special Site welds Special site welds are unique in that they do not break the Spool. This type of weld is used where a pipeline may have a long straight and it is to be broken into standard lengths, it may be undesirable to produce a spool for each single length of pipe so a special site weld may be used. Types of Weld Support Welds Support welds behave slightly differently to normal welds in that the user must supply more information. The dialogue below is used to input this information. Support welds fall into two categories: Fillet Welds Trunnion Welds Types of Weld : © 2004. Intergraph Corporation. All Rights Reserved. Types of Weld Fillet Welds The user can enter up to 9 fillet welds per support. Additionally the category (fab, erec or offshore) and schedule can be defined. Once the weld is defined the user only needs to locate the welds on a support. Auto Straight Splitting : © 2004. Intergraph Corporation. All Rights Reserved. Auto Straight Splitting This function allows the user to break the the pipeline into standard straight lengths. This can be based on a straight selected by the user or by the whole pipeline. The user can also choose if the straights are to be split by a Weld or a Coupling. For small bore pipework it is more desirable to use couplings for stability. Split Points Split points break the pipeline into multiple sheets. This can be useful for managing large pipelines. In some cases the split points may already exist in the IDF / PCF. Spoolgen can be configured to obey or disregard these split points. This function allows the Spoolgen user to control where the split points occur. When a split point is placed by the user Spoolgen displays a marker (ISP) to indicate where the split will occur. The actual splitting will take effect when generating the iso. I.e. Spoolgen will generate 2 sheets if one split point is present. Pipe Supports : © 2004. Intergraph Corporation. All Rights Reserved. Pipe Supports Pipe supports can be placed, removed or changed. The type of supports to be placed / changed are dependant on the material specification. Below is the list standard support shapes. Reference Dimensions : © 2004. Intergraph Corporation. All Rights Reserved. Reference Dimensions Reference dimensions give the user a method to dimension to a fixed point such as a wall or steelwork. This function works by first specifying a point to be referenced from and then defining the position of the fixed point. In this example the fixed point (horizontal steelwork) will be oriented EAST, with a dimension of 1000mm in the North and 500mm Up. Additional Materials : © 2004. Intergraph Corporation. All Rights Reserved. Additional Materials This function allows additional materials to be associated with an existing component and then generated on the bill of materials and reports. This could be useful for adding materials for pipe supports or assemblies. The materials are defined in the project specification. A selection bar is displayed to define what materials are to be added. The user then needs to select a component in the pipeline to associate the materials with. Finally the user needs to confirm the action using the tick icon Messages : © 2004. Intergraph Corporation. All Rights Reserved. Messages Messages are simple text strings that can be added to the pipeline. Messages are added by selecting the Place Info icon.
