How a student searches for job • When 12 years – fun is over • 40 % school drop rate by 10th standard • Hunt Begins. Who does student check? • Acquaintance • Relatives • Escapists • Orbits of influence

What student looks for? • What stages they connect with vocational education today? • Prospect • Dropout and want to get back • Continuation after a break • What do they look for? • Information • Credibility • Social Sanction • Relevance • Investment

Understand learner/student needs • Be aware of their challenges • Trust Deficit • Why should I come to you to get trained? • Trust of institution gets transferred – leverage • Want to see a lot of local heroes • Corporates prefer local youth • What people think on jobs “ what they will get after they get skilled” ? • If you want skilled people, you need to pay more. This is becoming reality • People join and leave in 2 months • If you want skilled people, Respect for work & Benefits at work in big motivating factor. • BPO companies play to this

Understand learner/student needs • Will course get outdated? • Thanks to IT courses, students have started to ask this question • We do not have money to get maximum use of course • We do not have money to pay for internet charges or purchase PC • Will universities recognize this? • Dream of Indian student is high, a constraint too • Aspiration of TN student is very high and ITI are going empty • Will there be dignity in my job in eyes of society, after being skilled? • Dignity is more in terms of money and fun • If not, why skills. • Why rural students are joining? • Money is not more than NREGS

Pointer for Training Providers • Makes things simpler for student • Less documentation • Self Verification • Direct Payment • Certification • Where to focus? • Focus on transportable skills( basic skills) • Focus on contextual skills (job requires) • Focus on last mile skilling • Very few players are here • Manufacturing plays large role in minds of people on hearing skill development or vocational training
