Lamar Jr. Lady Warriors:  Lamar Jr. Lady Warriors 2007-2008 Lamar at Atkins:  Lamar at Atkins The Lamar Jr. Lady Warriors opened the 2007-2008 basketball season with a 22-19 win at Atkins. Neither team shot the ball well, but in the4 end, we found a way to win. Jessica Milloway and Libby Nepivada led the Lady Warriors with seven points each, while Shelby Lynne Robinson added four. Milloway had seven rebounds as Robinson and Brittany Fassler grabbed four boards. Robinson took over the game in the fourth quarter as she made five of her six steals in the final six minutes of play. Lamar at Dardanelle:  Lamar at Dardanelle Well, 22-19 seems to be the magic number for Lamar as the Jr. Lady Warriors again come out on top. Lamar went to 4A Dardanelle and came away with the win over the Lady Sand Lizards and a 2-0 record. Scoring was limited to just three players tonight, but he defense took the whole team. Milloway led the scoring with 11, Nepivada had nine and Robinson added a pair of free throws in the closing seconds of the game for her only two points. Jess led the team in rebounding with six, while SheRob, Boo and Fassler each grabbed five. Shelby Lynne again led the way with five steals as Jessica had four. Lamar vs. Hector:  Lamar vs. Hector Defense, defense, defense. That was the name of the game as Lamar beat Hector in Junior Girls play 25-7 to improve to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. Milloway paced the Lady Warriors with eight points, Nepivada added six and Diedre Holben had five. Robinson led the way with five rebounds and five assists while eight different Lady Warriors had steals tonight. Lamar’s defense played very well tonight and SheRob did a great job of finding the open Lady. Lamar vs. Deer:  Lamar vs. Deer The Lamar Jr. Lady Warriors opened play in the Atkins Invitational Tournament with a 38-16 win over the Deer Antlers. Lamar (4-0, 1-0) brought a balanced attack tonight with nine different girls entering into the scoring column. Nepivada led the way with nine points, Robinson and Milloway had six each, while Fassler and Holben had five and four points respectively. Robinson and Milloway each had nine rebounds while Shelby Lynne had seven steals and three assists. Our defense led to good offensive opportunities tonight. The Lady Warriors had a season high 17 steals. Lamar at Atkins:  Lamar at Atkins Lamar Jr. Lady Warriors advanced to the finals of the Atkins Invitational Tournament with a 28-25 win over the host Lady Red Devils. With the win the Lady Warriors improve to 5-0 and 1-0 on the season. It was a sloppy game with Lamar turning the ball over 19 times, but in the end the4 defense stiffened to seal the victory. Libby led all scorers with nine points as Holben added seven and Milloway six. Fassler had six rebounds as Robinson, Nepivada and Millo3way each grabbed four boards. Shelby Lynne led the defense again tonight with four steals, three of which came in the final stanza. Lamar vs. Greenbrier :  Lamar vs. Greenbrier The Lamar Jr. Lady Warriors finished second in the Atkins Invitational Tournament as they fell to Greenbrier 27-12 in the finals. The 5A Lady Panthers took command early and Lamar never could recover. The Lady Warriors were led by Fassler’s six points, Robinson’s eight rebounds and Milloway’s six steals. Lamar at Plainview:  Lamar at Plainview Lamar improves to 6-1 on the season with a 39-16 win over the Jr. Lady Panthers at Plainview. Playing on the road for the 6th time in 7 games, the Junior Lady Warriors came out hot. Jessica Milloway led all scorers with 14 points, but eight other Warriors entered into the scoring column. Robinson led the way with seven rebounds, seven steals and four assists. It was a good balanced effort tonight. Lamar vs. Lavaca:  Lamar vs. Lavaca The Lamar Jr. girls improved to 2-0 in league play with a 26-18 win over Lavaca. This was a very physical game tonight with tough defense on both ends of the court. The Lady Warriors (7-1 overall) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and never trailed in the game. Libby Nepivada led all scorers with 10 points while Jessica Milloway had eight, Brittany Fassler had four and Robinson and Holben had two each. Shelby Lynne Robinson out muscled three Lady Golden Arrows late in the fourth period to help seal the game with one of her game high five rebounds. Jess and Boo each grabbed four boards and Fassler had three. Lamar vs. Cedarville:  Lamar vs. Cedarville Lamar vs. Cedarville:  Lamar vs. Cedarville The Lamar Jr. girls only held the lead tonight for 21.4 seconds, but the last 1.4 seconds ticked off the clock with Lamar up 29-28 in double overtime. The Junior Lady Warriors advanced to 8-1 on the season and 3-0 in the 3A4 conference with the win over Cedarville. It was a very physical game that saw Cedarville hold the lead until the 30 second mark of the 4th period when Diedre Holben hit one of two technical foul shots to tie the game and send it to overtime at 26-26. The first OT would see Cedarville hold the ball for the whole three minutes, and Lamar’s defense prevent a single shot. The second OT started the same way. But at 1:10 left in the 6th period of play, Cedarville turned the ball over and Lamar got their first touch in nearly five minutes. The Lady Warriors capitalized as Jessica drove the lane and put up a jumper from 10 feet. The shot was off, but Shelby Lynne came up with her 13th rebound of the game and kicked it back out to Jess who connected from eight to give Lamar their first lead of the night with 55 seconds remaining. Cedarville would tie it back up at 28-28 with 35 ticks left in the second OT. After swapping turnovers, “Jessica drove baseline and was hammered with 1.4 seconds on the clock. She hit the first of two to give Lamar the win. Ironically, in a game that saw the Lady Warriors shoot just 37% from the foul line, a free throw was the deciding factor. Fassler led the scoring for Lamar with 10 as Jess had nine, Diedre had six and Shelby Lynne and Libby each added two. Shelby Lynne Robinson had a career high 13 rebounds while Diedre had six and Fassler five. Shelby Lynne also had three of Lamar’s five steals on the night as the Lady Warriors finalized the victory. Lamar vs. Mansfield:  Lamar vs. Mansfield Lamar Junior Girls conference win streak ends at 19 straight as they fall at home against Mansfield. For the first time since February 9, 2006, (665 days ago) Lamar took the floor for a conference game and did not emerge victorious. Lamar (8-2, 3-1) once again got off to a slow start and battled back, but unlike their previous game, three was as close as they could get. The Lady Warriors spotted Mansfield 8-0 in the early stages of the game before finally hitting their first shot at the end of the first quarter to close it out at 8-2. Mansfield took an eight point lead to the locker room at the half, and led by nine after three periods of play. Lamar would stage their patented fourth quarter run, but this time it was too little too late. Jessica led Lamar with nine points and seven boards. Libby had seven points and five rebounds while Shelby Lynne had six points, six rebounds and three steals. First 10 games:  First 10 games 8-2 Lamar vs. Mountainburg:  Lamar vs. Mountainburg The Lamar Jr. Girls rebound from last weeks loss with a 21 point whipping of Mountainburg on the road. The Lady Warriors (9-2, 4-1) jumped out to a 7-3 lead at the end of the first quarter and stretched it to 19-6 at the half. By the end of the game, all players had entered for Lamar as they went on to post a 38-17 victory. Jessica Milloway led all scorers with 13, while Fassler added eight, Robinson six and Libby and Kori Doss each had four. SheRob led the Lady Warriors with nine rebounds while Diedre grabbed four boards. Jess and SheRob had five and four steals respectively. Lamar vs. Hector:  Lamar vs. Hector Lamar Jr. Girls improve to 10-2 and 5-1 in conference play with a 26-20 win at Hector. Free throws would prove to be the difference tonight as the Lady Warriors shot 9 of 11 while the Lady Wildcats were 4 of 13. Jessica Milloway led Lamar with 10 points while Libby Nepivada had nine. Shelby Lynne Robinson led the Lady Warriors with six rebounds, three steals and three assists. Jessica added four boards. Lamar vs. Wonderview:  Lamar vs. Wonderview Lamar Jr. girls drop to 10-3 on the season with a 18-14 loss to Wonderview in overtime. In a game that would set the tone for the night neither team led by more than four as defense was the name of the game. Lamar split on the night with Wonderview with both Jr. High games going to the visiting Dare Devils and the Sr. High games going to the Warriors, but every game was close. Wonderview was huge with posts at 6’-1 and 5’-11 but Lamar’s defense inside held them off. The only real issue tonight was getting points on the scoreboard. Diedre led the Lady Warriors with six, Fassler added four and Jess and Libby each had two. Shelby Lynne led the charge inside on defense with eight rebounds while Diedre grabbed five. Lamar vs. Harrison:  Lamar vs. Harrison Lamar Jr. girls drop to 10-4 on the season with a loss to 6A Harrison at the Clinton Holiday Classic. In a game that I missed due to our annual holiday flu, I have no stats or scores. Lamar vs. Mayflower:  Lamar vs. Mayflower Lamar Jr. girls improve to 11-4 on the season with a nail biting win over Mayflower 21-20 in the Clinton Christmas Classic. The Lady Warriors jumped out to a 6-4 first quarter lead only to see it vanish in the second quarter as Lamar could only muster a single point in the second stanza. The Lady Eagles would take a four point lead at 11-7 into the locker room. After some half time adjustments by Coach Carl Ramsey, the Lady Warriors put together a good 3rd quarter run to regain the lead at 17-13, and then held on for the 21-20 win. Lamar was led by Fassler’s nine points while Libby added six, Jessica four and Shelby Lynne two. SheRob, Jess, Libby and Diedre each had four rebounds, and Shelby Lynne grabbed four steals. The see-saw battle fittingly came down to the final seconds of the game, where Lamar outlasted the scrappy Eagles. Lamar vs. Clinton:  Lamar vs. Clinton Lamar Jr. girls fall to 11-5 on the season with a 26-16 loss to the host Lady Yellow Jackets at the Clinton Christmas Classic. The Lady Warriors held Clinton scoreless for the first 8:34 of the game, as their defense was fierce again. It was a battle of the Lady Warrior posts and the Lady Jacket guards. In a game that saw the lead change six times, Lamar got the shall down two at 15-13 with 2 minutes left in the game; but was unable to convert and Clinton would outscore Lamar 11-3 in the final 2 minutes of play. Fassler led the Lady Warrior offense with nine points including 5 of 6 from the line. Shelby Lynne had four points, seven rebounds , two steals and four assists. Libby grabbed five rebounds. Lamar vs. Charleston:  Lamar vs. Charleston Lamar Jr. girls use their stifling ‘D’ once again to put conference foe Charleston away 28-13. The lady Warriors (12-5 overall, 6-1 in 3A4) held Charleston scoreless in the first and to a single free throw in each of the second and third quarters. Lamar took a 13-2 lead after three periods of play. Charleston hit their first field goal with 5:16 remaining in the final stanza, but never even got close. On the offensive end the Lady Warriors struggled with how to deal with the lady Tigers triangle and two for a period and then Diedre Holben came alive. Holben led Lamar with nine points, while Shelby Lynne and Fassler netted five each. The lady Tigers had just as much difficulty getting second shots as they did getting first shots. SheRob grabbed eight boards to lead the Warriors and Fassler grabbed six. Our defense is playing as well right now as we have all year. The anchors in the middle continue to play well and the pressure from the guards is relentless. Lamar vs. Paris:  Lamar vs. Paris Lamar Junior Lady Warriors continue their dominance of conference 3A4 with a 34-10 pounding of Paris. Lamar (13-5, 7-1) had a very sluggish start and took only a 6-4 lead at the end of the first period. However, after an extremely motivational challenge by Coach Carl Ramsey, Lamar played with a greater enthusiasm in the second quarter and enjoyed a 17-4 halftime lead. Kori Doss provided a spark for the Lady Warriors and led Lamar with her career high nine points. Libby added seven, Diedre six and Shelby Lynne and Jessica each had four points. Shelby Lynne led Lamar with six rebounds, fine assists and three steals. Jess and Diedre each had three steals also, as Brittney Fassler grabbed five boards. Lamar vs. Lavaca:  Lamar vs. Lavaca Lamar Junior Lady Warriors improve to 14-5 on the season and take over sole possession of first place in conference 3A4 with an 8-1 record. Lamar escaped the trip to Lavaca with a 36-32 win over the Lady Arrows. In a game that would see Lavaca shoot lights out and hit 4-3’s, Lamar would have to put up several points themselves. In what was a career night for scoring, Jessica Milloway led the Lady Warriors with 15 pts tying her career high. Brittney Fassler had her career high of 13 points. Shelby Lynne Robinson led Lamar with 12 rebounds three blocks and four steals. Fassler had three steals. Libby Nepivada had her career high five assists to lead the Lady Warriors. Lamar vs. Cedarville:  Lamar vs. Cedarville If the first 90 seconds are any indication, the Lamar Junior Lady Warriors are in trouble tonight. Shelby Lynne was whistled for two fouls in 81 seconds and would be on the bench the rest of the half. With their anchor on defense out Lamar would see Cedarville take a 15-9 lead to the locker room. Lamar never did recover as the officials would not let Lamar’s posts Play and the entire team struggled from the floor. SheRob fouled out early in the fourth quarter, one in which the Lady pirates posted 17 points In route to a 41-21 loss for Lamar. Jessica led the way with eight points and Diedre added seven. Fassler led the Lady Warriors with six rebounds while Jess and Diedre grabbed five each. In her eight minutes of Play, Shelby Lynne grabbed five rebounds and had four steals. Probably the most telling tale was Lamar shot 3 for 10 from the foul line while Cedarville was 21 for 25. First 20 games:  First 20 games 14-6 overall 8-2 in 3A4 Lamar vs. Mansfield:  Lamar vs. Mansfield Those who live by the sword… die by the sword. The Lamar Junior Lady Warriors have used the sword of defense all season, but tonight they fell on that sword. Lamar dropped to 14-7 and 8-3 in conference play at the hand of the Mansfield Tigers 27-11. Brittney Fassler led Lamar with five points and two steals while Shelby Lynne Robinson led Lamar with 10 rebounds, four blocks and two steals. In a game that saw Lamar commit a season high 21 turnovers, and a season low two field goals, the recipe created disaster. Lamar vs. Atkins:  Lamar vs. Atkins After being snowed out on Monday night, the Junior Lady Warriors came out ready to play tonight. Lamar notched their 15th win of the season with a 27 point whipping of the Atkins Lady Red Devils. Lamar (15-7, 8-3) started the game rather sluggish, but managed to take a 6-4 lead after one period of play and extend it to 12-6 at the half. However, they looked like a different bunch as they put up 21 points in the third to blow the game open. Libby hit 3-3’s and Shelby Lynne 3-2’s in the third to lead the way. Coach Carl Ramsey would clear the bench in the final stanza as Lamar went on to win 40-13. Libby had a career high 14 points and Shelby Lynne had a season high 10 points to pace the Lady Warriors. She Rob grabbed eight boards and had five blocks while Fassler had five rebounds. Jessica led Lamar with four steals and Kori Doss had three assists. Lamar set a new season high with their 40 points tonight. Lamar vs. Charleston:  Lamar vs. Charleston Lamar Junior Lady Warriors drop one on the road at Charleston. Lamar (15-8, 8-4) could not muster enough offense to keep pace with the hot outside shooting of the Lady Tigers. The defense shutdown the inside game of Charleston, but the long range Tigers were on track, connecting on almost every open look. The game was close as the teams swapped the lead back and forth in the first quarter with Lamar trailing 8-7 at the buzzer-Charleston would extend its lead to 12-17 after 2 periods of playas Lamar got two buckets from Shelby Lynne and several free-throw. The teams swapped buckets in the third, but Charleston sank a three at the buzzer that proved to be the dagger. They would build a fourth period lead of 16 at the 1:30 mark before Lamar finally hit a couple outside shots to close it to single digits at 39-30. Jessica led Lamar with nine points while Diedre had seven. Shelby Lynne led the Lady Warriors with nine rebounds and four assists while Fassler grabbed five boards. Lamar vs. Mountainburg:  Lamar vs. Mountainburg Lamar Junior Lady Warriors get back on the winning track with a 27-14 win at home over Mountainburg. Lamar (16-8, 9-4) jumped out early and never looked back. Lamar scored the first 15 points of the game and held the Lady Dragons scoreless for the first 9:15 of the game. Jessica Milloway had a fantastic game as she had a career high 17 points, two steals and two assists. Shelby Lynne Robinson again anchored the defense tonight with a game high six rebounds, four blocks and three steals. Libby added six points and Brittany Fassler grabbed five boards. Lamar vs. Paris:  Lamar vs. Paris Paris prefers the forfeit, and chooses not to makeup a game called due to weather. As a result the Lamar Junior Lady Warriors improve 17-8 on the season and 10-4 in 3A4 conference play. The Lady Warriors are conference runner-up. Lamar vs. Mountainburg:  Lamar vs. Mountainburg Lamar Junior Girls opened District Tournament play without the services of their leading scorer, Jessica Milloway, and advance to the semi-finals with a 24-15 win over Mountainburg. Lamar (18-8, 11-4) saw several Lady Warriors step up big tonight. Shelby Lynne scored Lamar’s only bucket off of an offensive rebound as Mountainburg took a 4-2 first quarter lead. With the game tied at five all, and the final seconds ticking off in the half, Shelby Lynne found Libby for a three and Lamar would take an 8-5 lead to the locker room. The Lady Warriors would never surrender the lead from that point on, as they extended the lead to 17-11 after three periods and the final at 24-15. This team fought hard tonight. Libby led all scorers with 11 as Diedre had six and Kori five. Kori led in rebounds with six. Shelby Lynne was again the anchor in the paint with five rebounds, four blocks, a season high seven steals and three assists.
