SORRENTO CENTRE Sunday, June 29 - Saturday, July 5, 2014 Sharing Bread – A Food Security Learning Exchange with Suzanne Rumsey and Sheilagh McGlynn “Have you eaten today?” We live in a world where 1 in 8 people don’t have enough to eat. In places where food is scarce, people greet one another not with “How are you?” but with “Have you eaten today?” As part of a three-year campaign, The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF), the official development and relief agency of the Anglican Church of Canada, is partnering with Sorrento Centre to explore the complex issues of food security both overseas and in Canada. In dialogue with PWRDF partners from Cuba we will look at how everything – good nutrition, good health, good learning and good work – begins with good food. Participants will return home equipped with knowledge and skills to respond to food security issues locally and globally. This course will include some hands-on learning at the Sorrento Centre Farm, so come prepared to get your hands dirty! SUZANNE RUMSEY is the Public Engagement Program Coordinator at PWRDF where she supports a network of volunteers across Canada who educate, animate, fundraise and advocate about food security and other relief and development issues. She came to that position in 2010 after 20 years of human rights and community development work in Latin America. Suzanne is also mom to nine-year-old Robin who is pretty good about eating his veggies – and chocolate chip oatmeal cookies he helped bake. He’s be at Sorrento too! SHEILAGH MCGLYNN has been the facilitator at PWRDF since the spring of 2010. Passionate about working with youth and young adults, she enables them to make the connections between exploring their faith and working for justice in this world. Sheilagh has worked for over 20 years in youth ministry and campus ministry in local and national contexts. In her free time you might find Sheilagh on the dance floor, at yoga class or trying out a new gluten-free, vegan recipe that will easily feed 20+ people.
