Terminology:  Terminology WSS: Windows SharePoint Services core components required for creating web sites. Integrated with Windows Server 2003 and Office 2003. Downloadable component of Windows Server 2003 (license with Office 2003). SPS: SharePoint Portal Server Installed on top WSS (required). Extends the functionality of WSS to an enterprise portal solution. Server product requiring CAL for each user. CAML: Collaborative Application Markup Language Web Parts: portions of a web page that add functionality to a site. WSS vs. SPS:  WSS vs. SPS Server Requirements:  Server Requirements Hardware Pentium CPU/550 MHZ 1 CPU (2 recommended) 512 MB RAM Software (Recommended order of installation) Windows Server 2003 (any edition) .Net Framework 1.1 (installed by default on Win2003) IIS 6.0 SQL Server 2000/MSDE Windows SharePoint Services SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Client Requirements:  Client Requirements IE 5.01 or later for Windows OS IE 5.2 or later for MAC OSx Netscape Navigator 6.2 or later. SPS01_Config_db: default name; stores virtual server settings and tracks content DB – farm server activity. DBname_PROF: user profile information. On the SharePoint server go to All Programs -> SharePoint Portal Server -> SharePoint Central Administration. This will open an admin page in a web browser. 2. Under Portal Site and Virtual Server Configuration click "Configure Virtual server settings from the virtual server list page“. 3. Select the virtual server you are trying to update (i.e. "Default Web Site"). 4. Under Virtual Server Management click "Define Managed Paths“. 5. Under “Add a New Path”, enter a value for your site to exclude. This should match the virtual directory you created in IIS. For example type "/MyWS" You can verify this by clicking "Check URL“. 6. Select "Excluded Path" for the type and click OK. 7. Run IISReset to ensure the changes take effect.
