BULLYING AND IMPACTS Bullying & its Impacts 1. Workplace bullying costs Australian employers between $6 - $36 billion dollars every year. 2. They aren’t all million dollar payouts for obvious harm caused: even the accused can cost a company big $. 3. One accused successfully claimed $141,653.54 for injuries after "Reading full file release by Ethical Standards Unit and finding allegations that I was not made aware of".

10 FATAL ERRORS 1. Ignorance and hope (these matters do not resolve themselves) 2. Missing or misinterpreting the issue 3. Communication, Consistency & Confidentiality 4. Procedural fairness/due process 5. Contaminating evidence and process (for example: interviewing witnesses together, identifying people)

10 FATAL ERRORS 6. Record keeping – investigation notes and witness statements (audio log) 7. Tunnel vision/investigation bias: truth vs outcome (follow up all leads: inculpate vs exculpate) COI – real or perceived 8. Role and responsibility bias 9. Response – sledgehammer or tweezers? 10. Seize the opportunity v here we go again. Real implementation v tokenism - systemic improvement & positive cultural change.
