Prior to each work shift conduct a pre-start inspection to verify that the equipment and all its components are in safe operating condition.

Pre-Shift Inspection Gate Levers & Controls Basket is clean, log book and operator instructions present Inspect Pivots, connecting rods and pins CHECK OPERATIONS OF Warning Devices: • reversing alarm • Horn • Beacon • operational lights Inspect Hydraulics Rams, hoses, connections. Look for wear, leaks and creep Check tires, wheels, brake & parking brake Insure all warning and restriction signs are present and readable Safety prop is available under scissor Check engine/motor guarding From ANSI a92.6-2006 Manual of Responsibilities Familiarization before use. The user shall permit only properly trained personnel to operate an aerial platform. The user shall ensure that before use the operator is familiar with the model of the aerial platform to be operated, and specifically: 1. Knows where the weather resistant compartment for manual storage is located. 2. Know the operating and maintenance manuals supplied by the manufacturer (remanufacturer) are stored in the weather resistant compartment and is familiar with the operating and safety manuals. 3. Understands all control functions, placards and warnings. 4. Is aware of and understands all safety devices specific to the model aerial platform being used. – Aichi in Minnesota
