Jesus was born to St Mary the Virgin, and believed Joseph the carpenter. He was born in Bethlehem at the time of King Herod. He was visited by three wise men and shepherds. The three wise men gave him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Jesus died, supposedly, when he was 33 years old, on the cross on the hill in Golgotha, or "The place of a skull“.
Christians and Christianity believe that Jesus was the Messiah (a saviour or liberator of a people), and that he was sent by God to save people on Earth. Christians also believe that Jesus was God’s son. This is because an angel visited Mary the Virgin and told her that she was pregnant, with a child from God.
Christians believed that Jesus could perform miracles, in which amazing things could be performed at His will. Many of these miracles were performed in front of crowds, that were drawn to Him. Many famous miracles include, ‘Feeding the Five Thousand’, ‘Turning Water Into Wine’, and ‘Walking On Water’.
Jesus was betrayed by one of His 12 disciples, Judas. The Roman Authorities wanted Jesus dead, because of the political corruption that he was causing around Israel. Jesus was hung upon a cross on the hills of Golgotha along with two thieves. Along with that, he was stabbed in the lungs with a spear by a Roman Soldier.
Christians believe that Jesus ‘rose from the dead’ after three day on Easter Sunday. Mary Magdalene was the woman who found the death robes that Jesus died in and the stone that rolled across the tomb moved.
