Research Exposure: st A Teacher’s Edge in the 21 Century

Characteristics and Qualities of a Teacher as a Researching Professional Characteristics  Verify ideas and practices believed to be effective.  Discover new ideas and practices that are exemplified by an idea.  Clarify ideas that are designated to simplify teaching.  Discover ideas and practices that are counterintuitive.

Characteristics and Qualities of a Teacher as a Researching Professional Qualities: R- Research- Oriented E- Efficient S- Scientific E- Effective A- Active R- Resourceful C-Creative H-Honest E- Economical R- Religious

Research Concepts Definition of Research  Systematic, controlled, empirical and critical investigation of hypothetical propositions..(Kerlinger 1972)  A purposive, systematic and scientific process of gathering, analyzing, classifying, organizing, presenting and interpreting data.( Calderon and Gonzales, 1993)  Process of gathering data or information to solve a particular/ scientific problem. (Halpin, 1996)  Collection of data in a rigorously controlled situation for prediction or explanation. (Quinton, 2006)

Research Concepts Characteristics of Research  Empirical  Logical  Cyclical  Analytical  Critical  Methodical  Replicability

Research Concepts Types of Research According to purpose:  Predictive/ Prognostic Research- future operation of the variables.  Directive research- what should be done the findings to remedy a certain condition.  Illuminative research- interaction of the components of the variables being investigated.

Research Concepts According to Goal: Basic/Pure Research- development of theories and principles  Applied Research- testing the efficacy of theories and principles. 

Research Concepts According the level of investigation: Exploratory Research- discovery and generating theory Descriptive Research- prevailing conditions, processes, cause and effect relationships Experimental Research- effects of the variables on each other

Research Concepts According to choice of answers to problems: Evaluation Research- possible actions are identified and used as bases in making decisions Developmental Research- finding/developing suitable system or process.

Research Concepts According to Statistical Content: Quantitative- used of statistical or inferential statistics to determine the results. Qualitative- data are analyzed rationally not statistically.

Research Concepts According to Time Element: Historical Research- whole truth of past events Descriptive Research- present conditions and understand nature, characteristics, components and aspects of phenomenon. Experimental Research- cause and effect relationship

Research Concepts Research Process Steps: 1. Problem Identification- choice of the researcher based on the researcher’s interest, current issues, moral or legal impediments. 2. Literature Review- concepts or theoretical frameworks of the planned research.

Research Concepts 3. Research Design- procedure of planning and carrying out the research. 4.Data Collection- method of gathering data to provide information. 5. Data presentation, analysis and interpretation - manner of organizing, collecting and analyzing/interpreting data.

Research Concepts 6. Formulation of implications and conclusions -brief statements based on the findings of the study.

Research Concepts Chapter 1: The Problem and Its Scope Introduction/Rationale Theoretical/Conceptual Framework Statement of the Problem Statement of the Hypotheses Basic Assumptions of the Study Scope and Delimitations of the Study Significance of the Study

Research Concepts  Chapter 2: Review of the Related Literature Foreign and Local Literature Foreign and Local Studies Chapter 3: Methodology Design Environment Subjects Instruments Procedure

Research Concepts Chapter 4: Presentation, Analysis and Interpretation of Data Chapter 5: Summary of the Findings, Conclusions and Recommendations References: Bibliography Appendices

Research Concepts Outline of the Research Paper:  Introduction/Rationale  - purpose of the study and situation challenging the reader to read. Theoretical/Conceptual Framework - shapes justification of the research and presents specific concepts.

Research Concepts Problem/ Objective - time-bound and has no ethical or moral impediments.  Hypothesis - assumptions; null or alternative hypothesis.  Assumption - self-evident truth based on the known facts. 

Research Concepts Scope and Limitations of the Study Scope - boundary or coverage of the study Delimitations- constraints or weakness that is not within the researcher.  Significance of the Study - value or importance of the study or contributions of the result. 

Research Concepts Review of the Related Literature - identification, location, analysis f documents related to the research.  Research Methodology - design, description of the sample and instruments used in research.  Presentation Analysis and Interpretation -data that are discussed, interpreted and to give information. 

Research Concepts  Summary, Conclusions and Recommendations - brief statements or answers to the specific problems  References - listing of sources of materials use in the research
