According to a study in 2002, so do 88 faculty members surveyed. On their ability to teach, supervise and accommodate students with disabilities in clinical settings, faculty rated themselves 2.53 on a scale of 1 to 6. (Sowers & Smith, 2004) Slide 3: Sixty-one faculty knew current or former nurses who experienced disabilities. Sixty-three faculty currently had or previously had students with disabilities. The study concluded that faculty attitudes toward nursing students with disabilities serves as a barrier to these students (p. 217). This presentation is designed to raise your awareness to the needs of students with learning disabilities. It is in no way a complete representation of all that is necessary to understand the magnitude of learning disabilities.
