Evaluation Question 2 (By Melissa Gouveia)

2. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?

PROTAGINST - AVA

PROTAGINST - AVA

PROTAGINST - AVA The type of group that is represented in our media is teenagers. Even though in our first two minutes it is only the protagonist who is shown. When we see Ava staggering to her house at night drunk, this signifies that she is a typical teenager that goes out to parties and she doesn’t have a care about how she gets home. This would represent how most teenagers do not have any responsibility when they go out and are intoxicated.

Furthermore, when Ava goes into the kitchen in the morning shouting out for her mum, this signifies how she is dependent of her mum which represents how teenagers nowadays aren’t dependent and always rely on their parents to look after them.

This would represent how most teenagers do not have any responsibility when they go out and are intoxicated. To get the audience to relate to our protagonist, we decided to get influence from typical teenagers in action thriller genre. In Getaway (2013), ‘The Kid’ is the helper to the protagonist, however, she is shown as a typical teenager wearing jeans, a top and a purple hoodie. This assisted me in choosing what ‘Ava’ should wear throughout the film. This means that the teenage audience can relate to our protagonist. The things we changed was that we wanted Ava to build up her confidence while in the Getaway, ‘the kid’ is fearless from the beginning. The reason we did is so the audience can almost watch her mature throughout the film. Furthermore, when Ava goes into the kitchen in the morning shouting out for her mum, this signifies how she is dependent of her mum which represents how teenagers nowadays aren’t dependent and always rely on their parents to look after them.
