WORKERS’ COMPENSATION:  WORKERS’ COMPENSATION Temporary Total Disability (TTD) Payroll User’s Group Meetings June 7-8, 2006 TEMPORARY TOTAL DISABILITY (TTD):  TEMPORARY TOTAL DISABILITY (TTD) TTD wage loss benefits are calculated at 66 2/3% of the employee’s average weekly wage, not to exceed a maximum amount set by statute (currently $696.97 a week). Average weekly wage is computed based on employee’s gross wages. The TTD benefit is tax-free to employees. Per Missouri statute, TTD is not paid during the first three (3) scheduled work days the employee is unable to work and is authorized off work by the employer’s worker’s compensation treating physician. TTD begins on the fourth day of authorized work absence. Compensation for the first three (3) days of work absence (the “waiting period”) is paid through accrued sick leave or vacation if sick leave is unavailable. If authorized absence from work lasts more than fourteen (14) calendar days, the first three (3) days of absence is paid retroactively under TTD. TEMPORARY TOTAL DISABILITY (TTD) CHECKS:  TEMPORARY TOTAL DISABILITY (TTD) CHECKS TTD checks are mailed directly to the injured worker by the University’s Third Party Administrator, Cannon Cochran Management Services, Inc. (CCMSI), with a copy to the Insurance Department. The Insurance Department mails a copy of the TTD check to Tammy Debeaux in Med School HR if the injured worker is a School of Medicine employee or to the Department Business Manager or Payroll Administrator if the injured worker is a Danforth (Hilltop) Campus employee. A copy of the TTD check is also sent to Tina Jannings in the Payroll Office. TEMPORARY TOTAL DISABILITY (TTD) AND SALARY REDUCTION:  TEMPORARY TOTAL DISABILITY (TTD) AND SALARY REDUCTION Department should correct or adjust the payroll to compensate for the difference between the employee’s TTD check and the balance due from his/her pay. The Department must reduce the pay sheet online, reducing the employee’s taxable wages by the amount of all TTD checks received if the employee is normally paid on the monthly payroll. If the employee is paid on the bi-weekly payroll, the department must key the change on the pay sheet as a negative in the other earnings box. The amount of pay in excess of the TTD check is treated as paid sick leave to the extent that sick leave is accrued. When all accrued sick leave is exhausted, vacation pay will be used to the extent it is accrued. After all accrued sick and vacation is exhausted, the employee will no longer receive wages from Washington University during the remainder of TTD leave. If no sick leave or vacation is accrued, the TTD check will be the only compensation to the employee. During the TTD leave period, sick and vacation time does not accrue (applies to Hilltop Campus).
