Slide1:  Cluster analysis of sport interests in elementary school children Franjo Prot1 , Ksenija Bosnar1 and Jelka Gošnik2 Faculty of Kinesiology1, University of Zagreb, Faculty of Philosophy2, University of Zagreb, Croatia Slide2:  THE AIM OF THE STUDY To explore a cluster structure of sport interests of elementary school children Slide3:  SUBJECTS 1294 urban elementary school pupils aged 11 -15 years (685 boys, 609 girls) Slide4:  VARIABLES Measure of sport preferences - list of 52 sports to be evaluated on five-point scale to describe intentios of behaviour Slide5:  The list of 52 sports: acrobatics, aerobics, aeronautics, rock climbing, archery, athletics, auto-moto sports, badminton, baseball, basketball, bodybuilding, bowls, boxing, canoeing, cycling, dance, diving, equestrian, fencing, field hockey, football, handball, ice hockey, judo, karate, mountaineering, orienteering, parachuting, pin bowling, rhythmic gymnastics, roller skating, rowing, rugby, schooting, scuba diving, skating, skiing, sledging, spear-fishing, sports fishing, sports gymnastics, surfing, swimming, synchronized swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, water skiing, waterpolo, weightlifting and wrestling. Slide6:  - I will never participate - I will participate only if there it will be no other activity - I will participate from time to time temporarily, but, under suitable conditions - I would like to participate - I would participate just if there it will be any oportunity Five-point scale: Slide7:  METHODS Groups were defined as five distinct clusters obtained by SPSS implementation of k-means clustering of sport preference scale results. Slide8:  RESULTS Slide9:  subjects preferring sports with marked aesthetic component, some sports on water and equestrian, and rejecting the number of "male" sports. subjects preferring dance, tennis, roller-skating and badminton, and rejecting "male" sports. subjects with above average values of preferences on all sports. subjects with marked above average interests in football, ice hockey, rowing, shooting and motor-sport, and evident under average interests in dance, aerobics, synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics. subjects preferring football and basketball, being neutral to tennis, table tennis, handball, cycling and motor-sport, and rejecting all the other sports Slide10:  subjects preferring sports with marked aesthetic component, some sports on water and equestrian, and rejecting the number of "male" sports.
