Project BadyarAnnual power output of the 5.7 MWh project is estimated to be 27,500 MWh. The site is located in the District Uttarkashi in the state of Uttarakhand, India (the foothills of the Himalayas). about 50 km northeast of Dehradun, the state capital and 300 km northeast of New Delhi Expected to launch by end of March to mid-April, 2014 06

18 Facts & Figure sThe average Indian household uses only about 250 kWh of electricity per year, on the other hand a new fridge in a US household uses about 350 kWh per year all by itself (so a typical Indian household uses very little power) as mentioned before Badyar will provide 27,500 MWh per year thus covering the demand of around 100,000 Indian households. Desilting tank The Desander is one of the most vital part s of micro hydro electric plants, it ejects the sediment and foreign particles carried by water through the conductor system and protects the hydro mechanical equipment. 08

Conveyance li Conveyance lines are laid out along the contours of the mountains so as not to disturb the surrounding landscape, water is driven through these lines to the forbay tank. 09

Forebay Tank A forebay or surge tank is an additional storage space or reservoir fitted between the main storage reservoir and the power house. The forebay tank mitigates pressure variations due to rapid changes in velocity of water 10

Penstock A pipe placed at a steep angle, used for conducting water from a the Forbay Tank to the motor in the powerhouse. Its primary use is to increase pressure and speed at which the water travels, which in turn reflects on the amount of power that can be produced. 11

Powerhouse The powerhouse is located alongside the river and right next to the Substation. It houses the two turbines and two generators as well as the control room. 12

Tail race All the water taken from the river on top of the mountain will then be returned to that same river via these two tailraces even further reducing the impact of the hydro dam to the environment. 13

Generators + turbines The two turbines and generators fitted in the powerhouse, combined produce 5.7 MW of electrical energy. Thus the annual average emission reduction works out to be 19,301 tonnes of CO2 equivalent. 14

Switch yard Power produced by the PowerStation is immediately transmitted to the Switchyard, which connects with the Rajstar sub station which in turn feeds the electricity directly to the grid. 15

Substation The substation is the final stepping stone before electricity is passed on to the grid for the benefit of consumers. 16
