President-elect Barack Obama with President George W. Bush and former Presidents George H.W. Bush, William (Bill) Clinton, and James (Jimmy) Carter. Slide5:  Inauguration Day in America is filled with special traditional events to honor the new President and new Vice President. President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden Slide6:  Usually, Inauguration Day begins with the President-elect and his family attending a worship service at a church in Washington, D.C. President-elect John F. Kennedy at Mass Slide7:  Next, the President and the President-elect will ride in the Inaugural Procession to the Capitol for the ceremony. President Hoover and President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt ride to the Capitol Slide8:  After that, the new Vice-President gets sworn into office. Usually, the Vice President takes his oath of office before the President. Vice President Al Gore takes the oath of office. Slide9:  Then, the new President gets sworn into office by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. President Dwight D. Eisenhower takes the oath of office. Slide10:  Next, the new President gives his Inaugural Speech to the American people. President Richard M. Nixon’s Inaugural Speech Slide11:  After that, the former President and his family leave the Capitol to go to their new home. President George Bush and First Lady Bush Slide12:  The new President, Vice President and guests eat at a special Inaugural Luncheon, after the Inaugural speech. President Ronald Reagan’s Inaugural Luncheon Slide13:  After the luncheon, the new President and the new Vice President ride in cars at the Inaugural Parade. There are marching bands, military escorts, floats and flags everywhere.
