Photography The main focus of the arts in the civil war was photography. A popular photographer at the time was Matthew Brady. Brady took pictures of battlefields, camps, soldiers, and war generals. Lots of his photographs were in newspapers.

Alexander Gardner Alexander Gardner was another famous photographer in the Civil War. Gardner worked frequently with Matthew Brady. He photographed the Army of the Potomac, The Battle of Culpepper, and the Second Battle of Bull Run. In 1863, Gardner published The Catalogue of Photographic Incidents of the Civil War, which contained all of the photographs he had taken.
